007 First Light has been delayed for Nintendo Switch 2

Bad news, Nintendo fans — HITMAN studio IO Interactive (IOI) is delaying the Nintendo Switch 2 launch of its upcoming James Bond-centered action-adventure game, 007: First Light. The news, first shared by industry speculator Graczdari, was confirmed by IOI in a new X post. “007 First Light comes to PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 27th, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer,” the studio’s update reads. “We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms.” The new post, published at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, has already been viewed more than 108,000 times.

007 First Light features an original story for James Bond. In what’s been described as a true original story, 007 First Light will follow a 26-year-old James Bond on his mission that ultimately leads to his iconic 00 status.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a young James Bond in action. The 2006 film Casino Royale, which serves as a reboot for the James Bond film franchise, takes place shortly after Bond is promoted to 00 status. It is unclear whether or not these two timelines are related. Given that the game will feature characters such as Q and Miss Moneypenny, neither of which appeared in the Daniel Craig Bond movies until 2012’s Skyfall, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

007 First Light’s delay is the latest of third-party delays for the Nintendo Switch 2

For over two decades, Nintendo has enjoyed on-and-off success, notably with the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Switch consoles. Despite this, they’ve still struggled regarding third-party developer support.

We’ve seen major third-party franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto, Mass Effect, and Dark Souls, enjoy sustained success on PlayStation and Xbox, whereas Nintendo systems are often left in the cold. Some developers are starting to turn around. We’ve seen Ubisoft bring Star Wars Outlaws, for example, to the Switch 2.

Elden Ring is also scheduled for release on the Switch 2, but has undergone several delays, pushing it back beyond its original release window. It’s a common thread for some of these high-profile third-party games coming to Nintendo’s newest platform: all talk, no walk.

To 007 First Light‘s credit, IO Interactive said the game is still slated to release this summer, rather than the dreaded “delayed indefinitely” status.

For an idea of what the game is asking of its hardware, the recommended PC specs call for an Intel Core i5 13500/ AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti / AMD REX 6700 XT video card.
