10 Unsung Movies Audiences Will Defend Forever

Just because a movie wasn’t critically acclaimed or accepted by mainstream audiences doesn’t mean it’s without fans.

We’re not necessarily talking about cult classics here, but the unsung movies that most people look down on.

They still have staunch defenders online, and audiences aren’t afraid to let their voice be heard.

“Crime is a disease. Meet the cure.”

While Cobra isn’t anywhere near the list of Stallone’s best films, it’s still an excellent guilty pleasure film and, if you’re willing to turn your brain off, can be an exciting film.

Rogue One

The modern era of Star Wars movies hasn’t been entirely well-received, but there’s one that easily stands out above the rest, even if it still has its fair share of detractors.

Rogue One is an excellent addition to the Star Wars franchise. Not only did it help birth the acclaimed series Andor, but it’s also an exciting, albeit at times depressing, standalone story.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

As divisive as Rogue One can be, it doesn’t hold a candle to the discourse surrounding The Last Jedi.

If you ask me, it’s the best of the sequel trilogy. Sure, some parts of the film weren’t necessary, but it does an excellent job of moving the franchise forward and reminding us that we need to let go of the past.

Man of Steel

Zack Snyder’s Superman movie is divisive, to put it mildly.

One thing we can all agree on is that Henry Cavill is an excellent Superman. Sure, Clark Kent’s death is still puzzling to comprehend, but there’s no denying Snyder did an excellent job with its action scenes.

So I Married An Axe Murderer

One of the more obscure entries from Mike Myers’s filmography, So I Married An Axe Murderer has an old-school charm to it.

It has the look and feel of a ’90s romantic comedy with a Saturday Night Live feel to it, carried by the charm and charisma of Myers.

You have to know what you’re getting into with Barb Wire.

It’s nowhere near high cinema, but as a fun popcorn movie, it absolutely delivers.

Waterworld

You read that right. Waterworld has been undergoing a critical assessment over the years, which begs the question: Did we judge this massive box office flop too harshly?

The plot and premise may still be preposterous, but at its core, Waterworld works as a perfectly enjoyable sci-fi B-movie, and for some moviegoers, that’s more than enough.

Fire Birds

The Rotten Tomatoes description for Fire Birds states that, despite featuring plenty of talent on screen (Nicolas Cage, Tommy Lee Jones), Fire Birds is a “subpar military adventure sporting video game-like action.”

I don’t know about you, and it was clear it’s something that audiences in 1990 didn’t want, but that sounds like my kind of movie here in 2025.

Hudson Hawk

I’m convinced that the only people who still hate on Hudson Hawk simply haven’t seen the movie.

It’s an excellent showcase of Bruce Willis’ range, and it’s clear as day that the entire cast had a blast making it.

Kalifornia

1993’s Kalifornia has a surprising amount of star power behind it, featuring Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, David Duchovny, and Michelle Forbes.

Its arthouse look and feel turned people off back then, and it’s since faded into obscurity, failing to crossover into cult classic status today. Still, there’s plenty of defenders out there, and one of them is Roger Ebert, who called Pitt and Lewis’ performance as some of the best he’s ever seen.
