On Thursday morning, Nintendo aired its latest Nintendo Direct presentation, showcasing innumerable new arrivals, revivals, hardware, and other surprises. The broadcast aired on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel, and in the 30 minutes since it came to a close, has been viewed nearly 1.5 million times. While the presentation was rumored to center mainly on the Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary on Saturday, September 13, that didn’t stop players from speculating. Thankfully, the extensive event had a little something for everyone.
If you were unable to check out the presentation, don’t worry — we’re breaking down everything Nintendo touched on during today’s Direct. Take a look:
Super Mario Bros.’ 40th Anniversary
It’s been 40 years since the world’s most recognizable plumber first made his debut. To celebrate, Nintendo announced that its Kyoto, Japan-based museum will feature a special commemorative light display, anniversary-themed ticket design, and a ton of Super Mario artwork. Nintendo also revealed its new role as sponsor for the 2026 Kyoto marathon, even showing the exclusive numbers athletes will wear while they race.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Near the start, Miyamoto introduced a short title teaser revealing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Fans have stayed busy speculating about a potential title, and while it’s finally been announced, other details regarding the upcoming Nintendo flick are under wraps. They did, however, say the movie will release worldwide beginning April 3, 2026.
The charming teaser is bursting with recognizable NPCs and other Easter eggs, so check it out and see what you can find.

The new Bananza paid DLC is available now, but those who’ve not yet played can download a free new demo from the eShop.
