‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ celebrates nine TGA wins with free update

We’re hot off the heels of last night’s long-awaited The Game Awards 2025, and it’s safe to say the folks behind cult role-playing game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, are walking on air. The dreamy, cerebral turn-based RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive swept the Geoff Keighley-led awards ceremony, taking home a staggering nine statuettes, including the coveted ‘Game of the Year’ distinction. Expedition 33‘s nine wins make it the most decorated game in the ceremony’s 14-year run, breaking the seven-win record previously set by The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also holds the record for the most TGA nominations in the program’s history with 12 nods.

Sandfall shared a post-ceremony group photo on X (formerly Twitter), showing the crew in matching striped shirts and red berets. The upload included a touching message of appreciation from the studio:

The heartwarming post is enough to make any fan swoon, but the creatives behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took their gratitude a step further, announcing a free game update that brings all-new content and other surprises.

Developers have long teased additional content, and that moment’s finally arrived, mon ami!The free game update, called “Verso’s Drafts,’ is officially live across all platforms and regions, and brings Expeditioners new environments to explore, more goosebump-inducing music, a comprehensive Photo Mode, and more:

  • A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to ‘Verso’s Drafts’ – a whimsical storybook adventure with ties to a young Verso. Players will encounter celebratory Gestrals, surprising new locations and an encounter with a sinister, powerful presence… 
  • New music tracks by Lorien Testard, the award-winning composer behind the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack, which are also now available on digital streaming platforms. You can listen to the playlist on YouTube here
  • Challenging boss battles for late-game players to overcome within the Endless Tower. Besting these powerful adversaries will reward players with powerful new Pictos, costumes and gear. 
  • A much-requested official Photo Mode, allowing players to pause the action and commemorate their favorite moments from the game’s story and battles.  
  • New text and UI game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.  
  • Added FSR 4 support, including AMD temporal upscaling for sharper visuals and frame generation for smoother gameplay on compatible GPUs. 
  • New Quality of Life improvements, other new features and further improvements to the game’s performance across platforms, including on handheld PC systems.

Since its release in late April 2025, the Belle Époque-set Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has quickly dominated the global zeitgeist. The indie blockbuster generated widespread buzz and critical acclaim from players and industry experts worldwide. Its captivating French classical soundtrack, emotionally resonant story, and effervescent, watercolor-like visuals make the entire Expedition 33 experience feel like a dream.

The developer, French studio Sandfall Interactive, was founded in 2020. The team playfully and thoughtfully incorporates French culture, an approach that helped fuel Google queries about French language and culture in the weeks following the game’s release. London-based publisher Kepler Interactive was established in 2021. The group has helped release independently developed titles such as Sifu, Cat Quest III, and the just-announced TankRat.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via GOG, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
