Psychological puppet horror ‘Baptiste’ coming to Steam, consoles this fall

On Thursday, creatives at indie studios Firenut Games and Digital Dreams dropped a new trailer for Baptiste, an all-new narrative-driven survival-horror game that draws inspiration from the iconic, spine-chilling dolls and dummies seen in decades of horror media, like Goosebumps’ Slappy and the titular vintage doll from Annabelle.

In Baptiste, players follow mom Sara and her teen son Tom. Both deeply shaken following a fearsome family tragedy, the pair pursue new beginnings at Jagged Shore Cliff. Inside their new home, however, an eerie doll awaits, forgotten in an old and dusty cabinet. The figure is accompanied by a warning: “Never release this from its glass prison.”

From here, the grieving family’s attempt to find peace takes a turn for the worse. Their new home turns from a safe house to a house of horrors where Sara and Tom must simultaneously survive and preserve their sanity.

Devs have been hard at work on Baptiste for a while; the game’s demo was first shared on Steam on February 18, 2025, with devs promising a “chilling psychological horror experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.” Since its debut, the Baptiste demo has been featured in Steam’s Horror Game Awards Summer and Halloween Showcases, Midsummer Night’s Scream, and more.

In Baptiste, gameplay leans less on jump scares and more on psychological tension and heartstring-tugging narrative techniques to tell a story about the profound impact of trauma and tragedy on parents and children.

Titillating and twisted puzzles, unnerving mansion exploration, frightening mysteries, your own demons — fight through it all to uncover the story behind the cursed doll.
