Three classic Resident Evil games out now on Nintendo Switch 2

Now, normally I’m not one for rainstorms, but these overcast, gray skies make the perfect backdrop for the three Resident Evil classics launching on Nintendo Switch 2 handhelds today.

Capcom has officially launched a trio of iconic Resident Evil games on Nintendo Switch 2: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition! With Halloween and a new Resident Evil game on the horizon, there’s no better time than now to revisit these heaters.

Using their contemporary Nintendo consoles, players can return to the gritty, gloomy streets of Resident Evil‘s Raccoon City alongside fan-favorite franchise faces like Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine, among others.

Nintendo Switch users can now officially experience Raccoon City and the mainline Resident Evil universe with Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, the recently released Resident Evil Requiem, and, of course, the upcoming launch of Resident Evil Veronica.

Gulp. Buckle up.

Been a while since you’ve seen Leon and the gang? Catch up with a few brief synopses from Capcom. Raccoon City’s calling…

  • “Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition: An unprecedented biological disaster that strikes Raccoon City drags rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, a college student who has come to town to visit her brother, into a tragedy unlike any they’ve ever faced. Amid this extreme situation where the living dead devour humans, will the two of them manage to survive?
  • “Resident Evil 3: Raccoon City lies in ruins following the aforementioned unprecedented biological disaster. Told from the perspective of Jill Valentine, a survivor of the special forces unit S.T.A.R.S., this is the story of the beginning and end of the Raccoon City Incident. As the viral infection spreads through the city with every passing moment, Nemesis, the most fearsome assassin, stands in Jill’s way as she uncovers the dark secrets of Umbrella Corporation. Can she escape this desperate threat?
  • “Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition: Six years after the Raccoon City Incident, Leon S. Kennedy embarks on a harrowing mission to locate and rescue the president’s daughter. Can he survive the madness of the villagers, who have been transformed into monstrous cultists? In addition to the Separate Ways DLC – another mission woven into the background of the main story – the game also includes a wealth of additional downloadable content.”

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition is available now on Nintendo’s digital games storefront, the Nintendo eShop, for $29.99. This price reflects the ongoing 25 percent launch-day discount, but it expires on November 8.

You’ve got time, but I’d tie a string on your finger just in case.

Resident Evil 3 is out on Nintendo eShop for just $19.79, a 34 percent discount that also ends on November 8.

Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is up for grabs on the Nintendo eShop for $39.99. Like the other two adventures, RE4 Gold Edition‘s deep discount ends November 8, and the game will return to its original $50 retail price.

Capcom says these three remakes “faithfully preserve the essence of the original games,” but adds that “each title has been reimagined with fresh ideas and modernized gameplay via Capcom’s RE ENGINE.”

Capcom also says that Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition include “an abundance of additional content from the original versions.”
