New ‘Dune: Awakening’ trailer flaunts comprehensive base-building

In the deserts of Arrakis, a person falls to their knees before the gargantuan Shai-Hulud sandworm.

Hype isn’t the only thing building on Arrakis.

Today, Funcom, the team behind the upcoming open-world multiplayer survival Dune: Awakening, is showing off its immersive base-building mechanics in the game’s latest video.

Dune: Awakening draws inspiration from director Denis Villeneuve’s modern adaptations of author Frank Herbert’s titular novel.

The new trailer details the intricate constructions players can build during their time in the dystopian desert city of Arrakis.

Using comprehensive crafting capabilities, players can shield themselves from the elements in a lean-to, refine blood into drinkable water, control spice flow, expand existing bases, or establish others.

In a news release, game studio Funcom says its applying “many years of experience designing building systems” to Dune: Awakening, “pushing it to new heights with things like the Blueprint system, letting you copy any build into a Blueprint which can be placed anywhere in an instant, given to other players, or even sold. And with Solido Projections, co-op building has never been easier.”

Can’t wait ’til release date? Players hoping to depart for Arrakis a little earlier can partake in the game’s upcoming Beta weekend, running from May 9 to May 12.

Additionally, those tuning into the Global LAN Party Broadcast may be lucky enough to snag one of the thousands of Beta keys being distributed to viewers.

After a short delay, Funcom’s Dune: Awakening launches in just a few weeks.

Players with the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition get a launch date of June 5, while gamers with standard versions can join on June 10.
