12 Popular Actors That Make Us Change the Channel

Just because an actor is popular doesn’t mean we like them.

Some of the most popular actors in the industry are also the most divisive. There’s no denying the popularity of someone like The Rock, but am I lining up to see his movies? No.

It got me thinking: what are some of the most popular actors in Hollywood that I hate watching?

Jared Leto

Some know Leto as the frontman of the popular band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Others, especially recently, have seen him star in several high-profile movie releases.

Yet I’m not sure his talent warrants some of his roles; did we really need him as The Joker? Absolutely not; his talent doesn’t come close to warranting his billing.

Mark Wahlberg

Wahlberg’s past is too much for some people to look past. He had a civil suit filed against him for shouting racial epithets and assaulting a Vietnamese-American man when he was 16.

It starkly contrasts the image he tries to portray today as a man of faith.

Gwyneth Paltrow

For many, Paltrow’s successful public image went away after launching her lifestyle company, Goop.

It felt like a scam, selling overpriced products and encouraging expensive treatments that either had harmful consequences or couldn’t accomplish what they said they could.

James Franco

Franco was a highly successful actor, often starring alongside Seth Rogen in countless comedies during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He was even nominated for an Academy Award for 2010’s 127 Hours.

Despite that success, accusations of Franco inappropriately messaging a minor on Instagram turned the public’s opinion. As additional accusations came out, people started to change the channel when he appeared on their televisions.

Gal Gadot

Gadot’s performance as Wonder Woman in the 2017 film was a breath of fresh air for the DC Cinematic Universe and superhero movies in general.

This would be the high point in Gadot’s career, though, as her limited range as an actor has become more apparent over time. Most recently, she starred in the box office bomb that was Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White.

Taika Waititi

Another recent breakout star, Waititi enjoyed mainstream success directing Thor: Ragnarok.

His bit has started to run thin, though. His style, whether behind the camera or while acting, is okay the first or second time. After that, though, it becomes more annoying than entertaining.

Kevin Hart

I firmly believe that Kevin Hart has one style of acting: over-the-top.

It’s not just your typical over-the-top style; we’re talking about going 100 MPH when the speed limit is only 40. No thanks.

Will Smith

As much as I love Smith’s early work with The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and his original theatrical releases, I find myself turned off by him more and more.

There’s no denying his talent; he’s a big reason why films such as Independence Day and Men in Black work so well. With his recent focus on dramatic roles, though, I’m not sure what’s going on. He’s either chasing awards or choosing terrible screenplays.

Lena Dunham

Dunham found success with the hit HBO series Girls in the 2010s.

Her outspoken personality and nature already offended people, but as time went on, it felt like every time she opened her mouth, she upset more people.

Amy Schumer

2013 saw the debut of Inside Amy Schumer, resulting in the stand-up comic’s big break after a decade of various projects.

As someone who enjoyed the series, though, I have a problem with Schumer. It quickly became obvious that she was finding ways to repackage the same joke over and over.

She has also made several jokes in poor taste. Even if you’re roasting someone, there’s a time and place for everything.

Kevin Spacey

I loved Kevin Spacey and everything he did: American BeautyHouse of CardsSe7en, The Usual Suspects. These are all-time classics.

You can’t ignore his past, though, and the horrible things he’s done. His past work has been tainted, and it makes it hard for me to watch anything he’s done.

Chris Pratt

I am convinced we live in a world with two Chris Pratts. First, you have the one before he made it big: the lovable goofball from Parks and Recreation and the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. There’s a reason why he became super popular.

Then we have this second Chris Pratt. This is the one who stars in everything, left his wife, and wouldn’t shut up about his personal beliefs. I do not like that second Chris Pratt and change the channel when he’s on my TV.
