Alright, you can actually loosen the grip on your wallet for this one.
At a PAX East panel on Thursday, Hangar 13 revealed the exciting new trailer for its next release, Mafia: The Old Country.
The team confirmed Mafia: The Old Country will release worldwide on August 8, 2025, and is available for pre-order today. Gamers can choose from the Standard or Deluxe Edition of the franchise’s next entry for $49.99 and $59.99, respectively.
Deluxe Edition players will get the Padrino Pack and Gatto Nero Pack, which feature assorted weapons, outfits, horses, and accessories. Deluxe Edition players will also get special digital goodies, including the game’s original score and a ton of concept art and dev notes.
These more reasonable prices likely bring a little relief to media-focused consumers lamenting recent industry-wide price hikes and troubling tariffs. Millennials and Gen Xers can remember the sticker shock of the $50 or $60 game. Still, with future digital downloads teetering between the $80 and $100 mark, gamers in the United States will likely pay more for their hobby this year than any year prior.
2K President David Ismailer elaborated on the game’s modest price. “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” he explained. “We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis.”
Going in, gamers shouldn’t anticipate a Grand Theft Auto-like open-world map, but a more straightforward, uncomplicated campaign. Contrary to the massive RPGs out now and on the horizon, the Mafia team says this entry promises profound storytelling without the time sink.
“Mafia: The Old Country is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay,” said Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes. “That focus allows us to deliver a story that’s gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi’s crime family.”
Mafia fans can time travel to early 20th-century Sicily on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.
The unflinching mob-focused IP launched over 20 years ago with the team’s flagship Mafia game, which hit retailers in 2002. Since its debut, the franchise has sold nearly 40 million units globally.
