Controversial CKY skater Bam Margera is coming back to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 following the game’s namesake’s intervention.
Fans of the skater and MTV star were left empty-handed following the reboot’s announcement and Activision’s release of a Bam-less roster; Margera was the only skater from the original games not included in the remaster’s character list.
According to Roger Bagley-led skating podcast The Nine Club, the Birdman himself stepped in to demand Margera’s inclusion. In a livestream, Bagley detailed just how Margera returned to the already-completed remaster. “The game was already done. Tony called up Activision and was like, ‘Hey, we’re putting Bam in the thing’, and they were like, ‘Hey, we can’t’ … He goes, ‘No, you’re gonna do it’, and basically made them fly Bam back out there to get body-scanned and everything else, and get him back in the game.”
Though Activision has yet to make a statement regarding Margera’s return, reports from entertainment news outlet TMZ say Activision recently invited Margera to Los Angeles for related motion capture work.
Margera’s inclusion satisfies purists hoping to play the game in its original state. However, Margera’s beleaguered past — domestic violence arrests, substance abuse, firings, tumultuous public relationships with former costars, among other scandals and legal troubles — may sour some would-be skaters on the upcoming release. Some gamers have already taken to social media to express their feelings about the decision.
With no confirmation from Activision, Margera, or Hawk, gamers might have to wait until the highly anticipated remaster skates to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 11 to learn more about Bam’s return. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the upcoming remaster’s predecessor, returned to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in September 2020. The game became available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2021 and on Nintendo Switch in June 2021.
