Viral VR rhythm game Beat Saber is ceasing PlayStation console support, according to an update from its developer.

Users slicing blocks via their PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 will no longer receive updates as of this month. Additionally, PlayStation users’ multiplayer capabilities will be discontinued on January 21, 2026.

Beat Games updated players via its website’s FAQ page and social media: “As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025. Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years … We’re grateful for the incredible support you’ve shown us over the years, and we’re excited to share what the future holds for Beat Saber.”

The Beat Saber website clarifies that PlayStation users will still be able to play and purchase music packs released before June 18, 2025, but confirmed the addition of Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” on June 5 was the game’s final update for the PlayStation platform. Any forthcoming updates on other platforms will not apply to PlayStation users. Still, devs say these players will retain access to customer support.

Beat Saber has been a cult favorite for VR fans since its May 2018 release. Compounding users’ frustrations, however, is the game’s platform-specific appeal. The blood-pumping rhythm title was the PS VR2’s best-selling game in 2024, according to UploadVR. Sony’s VR venture is losing steam, it seems, especially following Sony’s significant VR funding cuts last year.

While PlayStation users have been left in the dark, support will continue for those using Steam or Meta Quest headsets. The latter is unsurprising considering Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta acquired Czech developer Beat Games in November 2019.
