Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, the unofficial E3 replacement, began on June 6th. With it came plenty of announcements, news, and surprise debuts of upcoming games to look forward to.
Summer is always an exciting time for gamers. The Electronic Entertainment Expo was lovingly called video game Christmas, as it hosted more video game announcements than you know what to do with.
That tradition lives on with Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, and following last night’s show, we’re recapping the biggest announcements that have us the most excited.
Chronicles: Medieval

Described as a “medieval sandbox,” Chronicles: Medieval looks to redefine the word “epic.”
While details on gameplay are light, the game looks to combine everything we love about medieval RPGs and strategy games into one, incredible looking package. Plus, Tom Hardy is the game’s narrator!
Mouse: P.I. for Hire

The first thing anyhone notices about Mouse: P.I. for Hire is the game’s art style, echoing that of the Steamboat Willy cartoons.
Once you get past that, it looks like there’s a lot of meat on these bones. Starring Troy Baker as Jack Pepper, it is inspired by old-school noir detective tales while delivering iconic, fast-paced FPS gameplay.
Into the Unwell

That’s not the only game with an old-school cartoon vibe.
Into the Unwell immediately hooked me with its narration and visual style, even if it was light on gameplay details during its debut trailer.
The game’s described as a third-person roguelite with the ability for up to two people to play together. If the full game keeps my attention like the trailer did, we’ll be in for a treat.

Wu-Tang Rise of the Deceiver

Wu-Tang isn’t just for the children anymore. It’s for the gamers.
Now’s your chance to join up to three of your friends in this co-op action RPG set to the soundtrack of iconic Wu-Tang tracks.
Mina the Hollower

It’s been a long time coming for Mina the Hollower, developed by Yacht Club Games of Shovel Knight fame.
Featuring an 8-bit visual style reminiscent of the Game Boy Color,
Mortal Shell II

One of 2020’s most popular AA games was the Soulslike Mortal Shell.
Its sequel kicked off Summer Games Fest and promises to bring more action, more violence, and more challenging combat.
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds

It’s not just about Mario Kart World anymore.
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds is a kart-racing love letter to all things SEGA. Yes, Sonic and the gang take full stage, but the new trailer at Summer Game Fest also revealed new playable characters such as Joker from Persona 5 and Ichiban from Yakuza.
Stranger Than Heaven

That’s not all from the team at SEGA.
Following its reveal at 2024’s The Game Awards, developer RGG Studio gave us a new look at Project Century, now titled Stranger Than Heaven. It’s a nice change of pace from the Yakuza / Like A Dragon games, and we can’t see the direction RGG takes with this.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Tribute Games, the team that brought you Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, is back in a big way.
This time, they’re bringing back the old-school Marvel beat ’em ups with Marvel Cosmic Invasion, featuring the newly announced She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon to the roster.
Scott Pilgrim EX

That’s not all from Tribute Games, though! They’re doing more than just bringing back old-school arcade beat ’em ups.
They’re bringing the Scott Pilgrim franchise back in a big way, with an all-new story from original author Bryan Lee O’Malley. As expected, you and up to three other friends can play together as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and other iconic characters from the franchise.
Resident Evil Requiem

The star of the show is easily Resident Evil Requiem. Best of all, it came right after Capcom teased that they need more time to work on the next Resident Evil game.
Requiem, which was teased as “Resident Evil 9” during its trailer, appears to star Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak‘s Alyssa Ashcroft, and, at least during some parts, take place in Raccoon City.
