Borderlands fans, go ahead and ready those Insta-Health Vials. You might need ’em after this.
The franchise’s latest entry will launch on September 12, 2025 — two weeks earlier than the previously announced release date of September 23.
Pitchford’s principal upload was removed, but in a follow-up post, he promises to reshare shortly. This time, with updated and time zone-reflecting information.
In Pitchford’s first post, the CEO said they “have” to adjust Borderlands 4‘s release date. While seemingly innocuous, some speculate the rescheduled release comes in preparation for, and possibly as a means to avoid, the likely internet-breaking drop of Grand Theft Auto VI, also expected this fall.
Pitchford adds that players can tune in to a Sony State of Play presentation, scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. ET, for more details about the upcoming Borderlands entry.
All things considered, the game’s release date shift is a stark contrast to frequent delays issued by many AAA studios. Earlier this year, French game studio Ubisoft infamously delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows on more than one occasion.
If a 14-day break separates the two releases, I can leisurely play both long-awaited installments without rushing through either.
Frankly, I consider it a small victory for busy gamers. (Gotta pace ourselves when we’re eating so good!)
