On Tuesday, the team behind smash-hit RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 announced that the brand-new game has crossed yet another milestone.

The title from French developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive, which quickly became a commercial and critical success, has officially sold over 2 million copies in just 12 short days.

The open-world role-playing game made headlines last week after it broke the half-million mark in just one day. Two days later — 72 hours following its initial release — the game broke 1 million units sold.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s X account posted a celebratory update:

“Twelve days in, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has crossed two million copies sold.

We’ve watched in awe as so many of you began your journey. Feeling every step, every emotion, every revelation alongside you.

To those just joining us: welcome.

Tomorrow comes.”

The sky-high sales figures are impressive enough on their own, but after Expedition 33 passed 1 million units sold, the team revealed the statistics didn’t reflect Xbox Game Pass downloads.

Expedition 33 released alongside The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered‘s internet-breaking shadowdrop, and while some feared the latter’s sudden availability and their shared position as day-one Xbox Game Pass titles would stifle similarly timed releases, that’s since been proven moot.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which currently averages a 9.7/10 rating on review aggregator Metacritic, has also received praise from French President Emmanuel Macron. The leader took to Instagram to congratulate the game’s creators. President Macron’s translated post identified the title as a “shining example of French audacity and creativity.”

The modest-sized team behind the critical darling further reaffirms indie studios’ creative and commercial contributions. AAA studios aren’t the only ones playing ball, and with $100 games on the horizon, it’s high time gamers shift some of their focus to small- and medium-sized studios.
