‘Croc: Legend of the Gobbos’ gets Platinum Edition update

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos ‘Platinum Edition’ | Outrun Gaming

What year is it?! The iconic Croc — yes, that one — is back in Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Platinum Edition, now available on Steam. The titular protagonist has been one of gaming’s most recognizable characters since leaping onto his first floating platform in 1997. Steam users can nab the all-new Platinum Edition now, while Croc won’t hit other platforms until October 16.

The sleek Croc remaster — a collaborative undertaking from Argonaut Games, Big Boat, and Titanium Studios — was first released on April 2, 2025. According to a new press release, however, the Platinum Edition is a significant update that brings “PlayStation Platinum Trophies, Switch Achievements, and a host of new features” to the title. “The Platinum Edition is a testament to our promise to deliver the best possible Croc gaming experience to fans,” the release reads.

The release also explains the name change:

“So why the new name? Great question! When we initially launched the Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster, we didn’t include enough trophies to qualify for the Platinum trophy on PlayStation. And it’s not permitted to simply fix this with a patch. So we had to come up with a smarter solution: release a new version of the game with a comprehensive trophy set, including 16 new Trophies and the highly coveted Platinum Trophy.

“And since we had our sleeves rolled up working on the Trophies, we decided to go all-in and add the equivalent 16 new Achievements to the Xbox and PC platforms, and also bring all the Achievements to the Switch as well, with its own in-game Achievement tracking screen!”

In addition to console achievements, the game’s Platinum Edition facelift also includes:

  • A new Time Attack mode
  • 25+ new Crocipedia additions
  • The ability to toggle between different Croc Main Theme mixes in the main menu.
  • Bug fixes
  • Quality-of-life features and improvements

The release states that rollout will look different depending on the player’s preferred medium. GOG shoppers or folks using a Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S will receive this update as standard. PS4 and PS5 users will see it as a new edition of the game, which they can download and play separately. Meanwhile, PC players using Steam will be able to purchase Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Platinum Edition for the first time.

The release closes with a heartfelt message to fans. “This update is a testament to our dedication to the Croc community. We’ve listened to your feedback and are excited to bring this update to all Croc fans, including our PlayStation trophy hunters who have been eagerly awaiting the Platinum path. We appreciate your continued support and enthusiasm, and we can’t wait to see you in the game, rescuing those Gobbos. Yazoo!”
