Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Off in Fighting Game ‘Fatal Fury’—Yes, Really

In a reveal that sounds like something I’d dream up after taking melatonin, soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo will go toe-to-toe in video game franchise Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as a real playable character.

According to developer and publisher SNK Corporation’s announcement and trailer, real-life Ronaldo receives a fierce digital facelift fitting for the Fatal Fury franchise. In late December, SNK revealed its new KOF Studio specifically for future fighting game projects.

The Al Nassr FC forward, 40, dons a comic book-inspired kit and employs pun-heavy attacks like “Headed Clearance.” Rest assured that in-game Ronaldo gets to chant his celebratory “SIUUU.”

Soccer sensation Ronaldo will be available for players at the time of the franchise installment’s launch. While there’s no question about the player character’s likeness, gamers won’t hear Ronaldo himself. Voice acting vet Juan Felipe Sierra is lending his skills to the playable Ronaldo for the English version, while Masaaki Mizunaka will portray the player in the Japanese release.

The footballer’s blurb lists him among “the top football players in the world. He uses his time off to visit South Town to hone his new football skills. The various techniques he has developed playing football make him an unstoppable force, even to seasoned fighters.”

Ronaldo plays for a Saudi Pro League club based in Riyadh, a team majority-owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF). It’s worth noting that the fund’s chair, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, holds a whopping 96% stake in SNK Corporation.

In a sentence I never thought I’d say, gamers can join Terry Bogard and now-fighting game character Cristiano Ronaldo when Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games on April 24.
