If you’re anything like me, your Steam Deck has basically become an extension of your hands. I call it my best gaming purchase of the decade. This little device makes it too easy to dive into epic worlds, battle monsters, and even solve murder mysteries, all from your couch, bed, or that questionable corner of the café where the Wi-Fi barely reaches.
Whether you’re into intense action, immersive storytelling, or something a little quirky, I’ve got you covered with some of the best games to fire up on your Deck.
Dark Deity II

Tactical RPG fans, this one’s for you. Dark Deity II’s combat is dynamic, and the story sinks its hooks into you right from the start. The cast is full of personality and the game lets you tailor the difficulty.
Whether you’re carefully planning your next move or just soaking in the lore, the Steam Deck’s controls and portability make it feel like this game was made for it. Perfect for late-night strategy sessions or just chipping away at battles during a commute.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Hunting monsters on the go? Yes, please. Sunbreak’s fluid combat and expansive environments run well on the Deck.
You can easily get lost in perfecting your gear and taking down massive beasts, whether you’re sitting at home or sneaking in a quick hunt on your break. The battery might take a hit after a long session, but trust me, it’s worth every minute—time to get on that grind.
Resident Evil Village

There’s something extra unsettling about playing a horror game handheld. Resident Evil Village on the Deck is an immersive, spine-chilling experience, especially with headphones on. The eerie environments and intense encounters hit harder when you’re up close to the screen.
Plus, the game’s performance is solid, so you don’t have to worry about a choppy frame rate killing the vibe. Just be prepared for some strange looks if you jump during a scare in public.

Hades

Few games feel as addictively satisfying as Hades. The fast-paced combat, charming characters, and incredible soundtrack make it a perfect fit for the Deck.
Runs are short enough to sneak in whenever you have a spare moment but long enough to keep you hooked for hours. Plus, there’s just something about wielding godlike power while lounging on your couch that never gets old. You have time to beat it before the second game’s full release.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

This one’s a classic for a reason. The Zodiac Age brings the best version of Final Fantasy XII to the Steam Deck, and it feels right at home. The blend of real-time and strategic combat hits that sweet spot between action and planning, and the world of Ivalice looks fantastic on a portable screen.
The combat system is my personal favorite of the series, and nothing in an RPG has topped the Gambit System. The cast has some of the best characters in the series. Good luck with those Demon Walls!
The Evil Within 2

Survival horror meets open-world exploration and is surprisingly great on the Deck. The Evil Within 2 has this eerie, unsettling vibe that hits differently when you’re up close to the screen.
Creep through abandoned buildings, piece together the twisted story, and prepare for some truly messed-up monsters lurking around every corner. It’s atmospheric, immersive, and just the right kind of terrifying for handheld horror fans. Hopefully, we can get a new entry in the future.
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

If you’ve never taken down a giant griffin while clinging to its feathers, you’re missing out. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an action RPG that knows how to make combat feel epic. The flexibility in character builds, and the thrill of climbing on monsters mid-battle make it endlessly fun.
Whether tackling side quests or diving into the tougher post-game content, it’s one of those games that feels right to pick up and play whenever the mood strikes.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Sometimes, you need a break from all the action to yell “Objection!” at your screen. The Ace Attorney Trilogy is perfect for handheld play. Its point-and-click investigation and courtroom drama fit the Deck’s screen like a glove.
The quirky characters and clever storytelling still hold up, and it’s surprisingly easy to lose hours unraveling cases. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy also features new remaster graphics that make the game look like a modern 2D game.
Yakuza 0

If you’re in the mood for an emotional rollercoaster with a side of karaoke, Yakuza 0 has you covered. Switching between Kiryu’s stoic, honorable demeanor and watching Majima descend into madness never gets old. One minute you’re in a brutal street fight, the next you’re managing a cabaret club or dominating the dance floor.
It’s the perfect mix of drama and absurdity, and the Deck makes it easy to take Kamurocho’s wild energy wherever you go.
Sonic Mania

Sometimes, you just need pure speed and nostalgia, and Sonic Mania delivers both in spades. The vibrant, retro-styled levels pop on the Deck’s screen, and the controls are snappy enough to nail those tricky jumps.
Whether you’re revisiting classic zones or exploring new ones, it’s just plain fun to blaze through levels as the blue blur. Plus, it’s an easy pick for quick gaming sessions when you just want to unwind, so why not play the best Sonic game available?
