Just one day after fan-favorite co-op shooter Helldivers 2 got its third update, “Heart of Democracy,” the game’s team reported renewed, record-breaking player interest.

The team behind the year-old multiplayer game has taken to social media platforms to celebrate their latest win. Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt took to X with a screenshot showing nearly 200,000 concurrent players, the game’s highest Steam numbers since its previous April 2024 peak.

I think this is the largest simultaneous return of players for Helldivers?” Pilestedt said in his post. “Team did a MEGA job on the update!”

The title’s creative director expanded on player data in another post: “Around 2.5 million Helldivers playing the game every week, super excited to see how many more log in with this update! So happy and blessed that we have such an amazing community!”

Despite Helldivers 2‘s tumultuous 2024, the development team’s latest efforts to revitalize gameplay and regain waning interest appear to be paying off. At the time of writing, third-party Steam data aggregator SteamDB shows a 233.7% spike in players in the last 30 days, or around 115,000 players.

For reference, SteamDB shows Helldivers 2 peaked at just 49,000 players in April 2025.

In the new update, divers must take down swaths of Illuminate alien ships as they decimate players’ home planet of Super Earth. The threat of more than 2 billion invaders may have some divers shaking in their boots, but thankfully, the update also offers weapon customization, unlockable attachments, fun cosmetics, and the return of harder-to-obtain Superstore offerings.

If promising new content and record-setting positive fan reception weren’t enough to incentivize your return to Helldivers 2, Steam users can snag a copy of the co-op hit for $31.99, a 20% discount.
