On Monday, Xbox confirmed the highly anticipated video game sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong will be publicly playable at Gamescom next month.
The Microsoft gaming subsidiary revealed the demo of Team Cherry’s long-awaited follow-up in a news release. Xbox will feature Silksong with more than 20 other titles at Gamescom, an annual video game exhibition set to take place in Cologne, Germany, from Wednesday, August 20, to Sunday, August 24.
While the indie sequel has no set release date beyond a tentative “2025,” industry trade show attendees who drop by Microsoft’s Xbox booth can get an early taste of the Metroidvania. What’s more, gamers will enjoy the title via PC or the ROG Xbox Ally X, one of Xbox’s upcoming third-party handhelds.
Silksong‘s upcoming Gamescom arrival marks the anticipated sequel’s first public appearance. Previously, Silksong‘s first extensive reveal was slated for Australia’s National Museum of Screen Culture’s (ACMI) interactive “Game Worlds” exhibit, beginning September 18, 2025.
Alongside Silksong and all-new hardware, Xbox will offer fans “an exclusive theater presentation” of Obsidian Entertainment’s sci-fi sequel, The Outer Worlds 2. “Step into Protectorate territory for an exclusive look inside the Tomb of the Matriarch,” Xbox teases, “an opulent facility where history, loyalty, and propaganda intertwine. In this guided theater experience, witness how The Outer Worlds 2 explores a society that trades freedom for security, and reveres its founders with unsettling devotion.”
Additionally, players in attendance can check out hands-on demos of first- and third-party releases. First-party features include Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos Montreal’s co-op survival game Grounded 2, hack-and-slash sequel Ninja Gaiden 4, new DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and updates to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Xbox says fans can check out other playable demos from third-party partners, including:
- Borderlands 4
- Onimusha: Way of The Sword
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
- EA Sports FC 26
- Aniimo
- There Are No Ghosts at the Grand
- PowerWash Simulator 2
