Unclench your jaw, lower your shoulders, take a deep breath, and stop Silkposting.

We finally have a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to beloved Metroidvania Hollow Knight.

The launch date reveal comes two days after the game’s studio, Team Cherry, posted what it called a “special announcement” to their YouTube channel. The video teased some big news and urged fans to return in two days to find out.

The clip aired this morning, and while brief — just shy of a 2-minute runtime — it rewards patient, faithful fans with some gameplay footage before flashing the game’s September 4, 2025, release date. The game’s protagonist, Hornet, is shown soaring through stunning new stages and taking down brand-new baddies — more than 200, according to the reveal.

The wait from Tuesday to Thursday isn’t much when you consider the wait for the platformer itself far exceeds 48 hours. Hollow Knight, first released in 2017, quickly became a cult hit. The 2D adventure’s Steam listing boasts a remarkable 136,000 reviews — nearly 5,000 recent — and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” aggregated rating. The hit’s enchanting, hand-drawn visuals and rewarding exploration go from great to sublime thanks to the game’s unforgettable soundtrack.

The follow-up to Hollow Knight was first teased six years ago, and since then, it’s become Steam’s most-wishlisted game. After its inclusion in a Nintendo Direct earlier this year, speculation about its eventual release unsurprisingly spiked. Not long after its appearance in the presentation, Hollow Knight: Silksong was tapped for Australia’s National Museum of Screen Culture’s (ACMI) interactive “Game Worlds” exhibit.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently playable at Gamescom, a colossal games expo in Cologne, Germany.

Pick up the long-awaited indie platformer, Hollow Knight: Silksong, when it (finally!!!) releases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on September 4, 2025. Check out the full announcement here:
