Indie hit ‘Wobbly Life’ getting TV, film adaptations

Hit open-world sandbox game Wobbly Life is being adapted for television and film, studio RubberBandGames announced in a press release. The UK-based indie developer has officially partnered with Prime Universe Films — the label behind the Timothy Olyphant HITMAN films — to bring Wobbly Life to new audiences. Prime Universe’s CEO, Adrian Askarieh, also serves as Executive Producer on the HITMAN TV adaptation that’s currently underway at 20th Television.

The video game adaptation niche’s recent success is undoubtedly paving the way for more big- and small-screen interpretations. From HBO mega-hit The Last of Us and Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout to Nintendo’s upcoming sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, gamers are enjoying big-budget retellings of their favorite stories. Not bad for a genre that’s historically struggled.

“I was drawn right away to Wobbly Life’s playful world and the quirky characters that have enchanted millions of players,” Askariah said. “Its meteoric growth shows the strength of the universe and I’m excited to work with RubberBandGames to bring it into film and television. This world has a tone, identity, and characters that lend themselves to storytelling across multiple formats.”

“From day one the success of Wobbly Life has been driven by the community,” RubberBandGames founder Tom Dunn, shared. “The team and I have been blown away by the huge growth this year and we’re thrilled to see Wobbly Life take its first steps into film and TV.  We expect 2026 to be even bigger.”

Wobbly Life, initially released as a single developer’s passion project, has grown into a full-blown craze since its launch in 2019. Thanks to the hit’s zany in-game physics, whimsical visuals, cooperative missions, and continued updates, Wobbly Life has maintained its place in players’ repertoires. Since its release, Wobbly Life has sold more than 2.8 million units worldwide and hosts more than 10 million monthly user sessions.

Wobbly Life has also amassed over 2 billion views on its YouTube channel, and that number keeps climbing.

The game remains a Nintendo Switch bestseller in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and Japan, and sees around 6 million total players across all major gaming platforms, including subscription-based offerings. According to Steam data aggregator SteamDB, Wobbly Life ranks no. 807 in daily active users (DAUs), an impressive stat for a six-year-old sandbox game. Thanks to the game’s Space Update, player engagement reached record highs in 2025, with players logging a cumulative 60 million in-game hours.
