The Martians are back, and just in time for Halloween! Nearly three decades after the kooky cult comedy Mars Attacks! hit theaters, the extraterrestrials are returning to Earth to run an amusement park in the all-new game, Mars Attracts. The theme park management simulator from developer Outlier Games launched today into Early Access on digital game distributor Steam. The game draws inspiration from the Topps-created trading card game of the same name, as well as Tim Burton’s 1996 silver-screen adaptation.

Ireland-based developer Outlier Games announced the game’s Early Access release via a press release on Monday. According to the studio, Mars Attracts will remain in Early Access for “about nine months, with development following a player-guided approach.” With this release strategy, the studio hopes to receive feedback from real players that they can implement to enhance the gameplay experience. “Fans can have their say on new features and tweaks to existing elements through the studio’s Discord. This input will play a major role in shaping the development roadmap, with the Outlier team keen to let the community have their say in shaping the game they want to play.”

In Mars Attracts, up-and-coming managerial Martians become master multitaskers. Players must abduct human test subjects for their unsavory experiments and entertain park patrons, all while minding potential escapees. If you happened to play the Mars Attracts demo, you can hop back in to find all-new content introduced in today’s Early Access launch, like new maps, missions, structures, and characters. Naturally, fans can also expect the same campy, retrofuturistic aesthetic that we’ve come to associate with the IP.

As a management sim fan, I’m beside myself. I didn’t spend all that time derailing coasters and dropping patrons into ponds in RollerCoaster Tycoon to drop the proverbial ball.

“Fans of the game will also have a chance to pick up a very special Supporter’s Edition,” according to the press release, “which includes an hour long behind the scenes featurette, the game’s soundtrack, and an 56 page artbook packed full of never-before seen concept art, illustrations and character design. Supporters will also have access to a bonus human enclosure and special character – the Space Age!” I can hear the excited squeals of franchise fans already. Hey, it’s OK — I can’t think of a better place to scream and holler than a Martian-run amusement park.
