Calcium-rich indie game Megabonk has taken Steam and social media by storm, and indie developer Vedinad is compounding the hype with some impressive player metrics. In the two weeks since the zany roguelike’s Steam release on September 18, Megabonk has sold more than 1 million units. On October 2, the game’s developer took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news with fans. “ONE MILLION MEGABONK COPIES SOLD IN 2 WEEKS THANK YOU GUYS!!” the celebratory post reads. “ill be eating spaghetti with EXTRA sauce tonight [sic].”

Megabonk Breaks Records

In another post shared on October 5, developer Vedinad revealed Megabonk nabbed a coveted spot on Steam’s most-played games list. The indie title is in good company; Megabonk sits alongside blockbusters like PUBG and Hollow Knight: Silksong, while also surpassing AAA releases like Borderlands 4.

Megabonk also hit a player peak over the weekend; on Sunday, the game welcomed more than 117,000 simultaneous skeletal skateboarders. At the time of writing, Steam data aggregator SteamDB shows that Megabonk is No. 7 on Steam’s most-played list, No. 8 in daily active users, and No. 59 based on wishlist activity. Megabonk is currently hosting over 75,000 Megachads.

Megabonk‘s performance figures make it the eighth new indie title to surpass 100,000 concurrent players this year. Since January 2025, only seven other independent games did the same: Schedule IR.E.P.O.Bongo CatDeltaruneHollow Knight: SilksongHades 2, and PEAK.

The survival game currently holds a “Very Positive” aggregated review score, having garnered over 13,000 English reviews in the past two weeks.

The fast-paced title has piqued the interest of some of Steam’s most competitive players. On Monday, Oct. 6, the Megabonk dev told followers on X that a leaderboard patch is in the works. “Working on a patch for the leaderboards, had some cheaters brick them,” the account shared with a skull emoji. “I’ll try to get it out today or tomorrow!”

About Megabonk

Megabonk, an endearingly chaotic 3D survival game, pits players against relentless enemy hordes in randomly selected maps. Using one of many quirky characters available, gamers must collect loot, level up their arsenal, and endure the onslaught for as long as possible. The title will surely appeal to fans of 2022’s frantic indie roguelike, Vampire Survivors.

“Smash your way through endless waves of enemies and grow absurdly powerful,” Megabonk‘s Steam blurb reads. “Grab loot, level up, unlock characters and upgrade to create unique and crazy builds as you fend off hordes of creatures!” The game’s Steam listing also highlights 240 in-game quests, nearly two dozen offbeat characters, and dozens of items, each with unique capabilities.

Feeling froggy? Pick up Megabonk on Steam for $9.99. Clear your schedule, though. Trust me on this.
