Here’s something I didn’t have on my bingo card for 2026: Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Tomlin has one of the most impressive Minecraft cities I’ve ever seen.
Tomlin, who coached the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2007 to 2025, winning Super Bowl XLIII in dramatic fashion, was fired after a string of disappointing seasons. I’m not here to debate whether or not his firing was warranted, but it was clear that it was time for both parties to move on.
So how has Tomlin been handling his post-coaching career? Pretty well, honestly. He’s now an analyst for NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Aside from that, he finally has the opportunity to show off his magnum opus that he’s been secretly working on for the past 12 years: one of the most impressive Minecraft cities I’ve ever seen.
Tomlin’s debut video on his YouTube channel, which at the time of writing has just under 70,000 subscribers, is episode 1 of showcasing the rooftops, penthouses, and urban living within the city he’s been secretly working on. It’s packed with some of the most impressive urban planning, hot spots, and even recognizable stores I’ve seen
Here’s why Mike Tomlin has been playing Minecraft
Naturally, there are a lot of questions, with the most obvious one being “Why is Mike Tomlin playing so much Minecraft?” To be honest, it’s a pretty simple explanation: because of his kids.
“I started playing Minecraft, man, when my kids were young,” Tomlin said when he first revealed what he’s been working on. “I have a Minecraft city in creative that I’ve been working on for like 12 years.”
His son posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was enlisted to help record an overview of the city and put it on YouTube. There was just one problem: the video was going to be over two hours long if it wasn’t cut up into sections.
His son also joked that there would be days he’d come home and notice the PlayStation 5 was gone despite not being in trouble. That’s because Tomlin was locked in on creating his city.
It’s safe to say that the debut video was a massive success, currently amassing over 675,000 views. Plans for a second episode are being made, with several more presumably on the way. As for Tomlin, he himself is relatively young at only 54 years old. Given his track record, I’m sure he could pick up a new coaching gig whenever he wants. Then again, he’s felt quite content to enjoy some family time since being let go last year. Maybe now he’ll be able to create new Minecraft cities with a quicker turnaround time.
