On Thursday, Warner Bros. dropped the long-anticipated first trailer for Mortal Kombat II. The fighting game flick, expected to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, is director Simon McQuoid’s sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat. The adaptation is based on the long-running and famously violent fighting game franchise of the same name, created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

In Warner Bros.’ 2-minute, 32-second spot, gamers and franchise fans finally get their first look at The Boys star Karl Urban as franchise fave Johnny Cage. The smug-yet-skilled martial artist was one of just seven playable fighters first introduced in 1992’s inaugural Mortal Kombat game.

While the 2021 film followed unique character Cole Young (Lewis Tan) as he fought his way past the vicious enemies of Outworld, the sequel brings the series’ most beloved fighters to the titular high-stakes showdown between Earthrealm and Outworld.

Cast members returning to the sequel include lead Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Lawrence Kasanoff, and script writer Jeremy Slater.

Unlike the first film, Mortal Kombat II will exclusively release in theaters; 2021’s Mortal Kombat was released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming service HBO Max amid COVID-19 shutdowns and social distancing protocol.

Check out the official red-band (NSFW) trailer on Warner Bros.’ YouTube channel, and be sure to check out Mortal Kombat II when it hits theaters on October 24.
