Best Pokemon Feature

Everyone who’s played a Pokémon game has a favorite Pokémon.

Everyone has an opinion, whether it’s one of the originals (Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle) from Pokémon Red and Blue, internet favorite Mudkip, or a powerful legend like Rayquaza.

With thousands of Pokémon available in the video games, there’s no shortage of options to choose from. According to a recent online survey, here are the ten most popular Pokémon.

Snorlax

Everyone remembers their first interaction with a Snorlax. The big, giant, sleeping Pokémon is in your way as you’re trying to traverse down Route 12 from Lavender Town.

Thankfully, your new Poké Flute lets you wake up the loveable sleeping giant.

Snorlax has appeared in other Nintendo games, such as Super Smash Bros., and it is a popular option for cosplayers.

Swampert

The final evolution of the Generation 3 starter Mudkip, Swampert is far more than just an internet fad.

While his appearance is comical and cute, Swampert is also a powerful Pokémon for competitive players. As a hybrid Water/Ground-type, Swampert can withstand attacks that would otherwise be deadly to Water-types while also dishing out serious damage of his own.

Metagross

Debuting in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Metagross’ popularity is due to its intimidating nature and impressive strength.

Not every popular Pokémon needs to be cute and cuddly, and Metagross is here to reinforce that. Its tough and imposing nature makes it a force on the battlefield, winning over Pokemon fans worldwide.

Pokemon #001, Bulbasaur is one of the original starting Pokémon from the first video games.

While it eventually evolves into the intimidating Venusaur, Bulbasaur is arguably the poster child for how cute Pokémon can be. It was also the safest option to choose when starting the first Pokémon games, leading many people to gravitate to it over Squirtle or Charmander.

Gardevoir

One of the best looking Pokémon, Gardevoir’s design appeals to a large portion of the Pokémon fanbase.

Its elegant appearance, combined with its moveset, gives Gardevoir a graceful aura. Despite Pokémon being short for “Pocket Monsters,” Gardevoir proves that not every Pokémon looks like a monster; this one looks like it can be your best friend.

Flygon

Dragons are universally popular, which rings true in the world of Pokémon.

One thing that makes Flygon so popular is its background and lore, being dubbed the elemental spirit of the desert. This is backed by its dragon/ground typing. With its buglike appearance, Flygon checks all the boxes you’d expect from a popular Pokémon.

Eevee

Eevee is known for evolving into various element-based Pokémon, most notably fire, thunder, and water. They’re lovingly called “Eeveelutions.”

Yet the original, Normal-typed Eevvee is more popular than its other options.

The reasoning? I mean, look at Eevee! How can you not fall in love?

Umbreon

Speaking of Eevelutions, Umbreon is the only one that cracks the list of the ten most popular Pokémon.

Umbreon is the shadow evolution that doubles as one of the most popular Pokémonplushies people own.

Its appearance resembles a black cat, undoubtedly adding to its popularity.

Gengar

When it comes to coolness, no other Pokémoncan touch Gengar.

As a Ghost-type Pokémon, Gengar was a force on the battlefield in Pokémon Red and Blue. Its sinister look, moveset, and call strike fear in the hearts of your enemies.

Yet, despite this intimidating nature, you can’t help but want to give Gengar the biggest hug.

Charizard

From the iconic trading card to his intimidating nature in the video games, Charizard is the choice of many as their most popular Pokémon.

Given Charizard’s popularity, it’s no surprise that the Fire-type Pokémon routinely appear in the mainline games. While Pikachu may be the most iconic and recognizable Pokémon, Charizard is not far behind.

Charizard is also crucial to the story of the Pokémon television series and the development of Ash Ketchum as a Pokémon trainer.

Note: This list comes from a 2024 poll of nearly 3,000 Pokémon fans.
