Movie Sequels We Totally Forgot About

Movie Sequels We Totally Forgot About

Good sequels are a rare thing. For every Godfather Part II and Empire Strikes Back, countless bad sequels ruin the reputation of the original film.

Some sequels are so bad that most people forget that they exist. These films are honestly best left forgotten.

My Summer Story

A Christmas Story has become a holiday tradition for many, with TBS famously airing the movie for 24 consecutive hours.

Its little known sequel, My Summer Story, doesn’t get the same respect, though. With the exception of Jean Shepard as the narrator, none of the original cast returned.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer theatrical releases aren’t anything to write home about, but they’re still enjoyable slasher flicks during a time when Scream made them popular again. Jennifer Love Hewitt is an underrated Final Girl as well.

That being said, she only starred in two movies, whereas the third one was a straight-to-DVD disaster that’s better left in the bargain bin.

The Birds II: Land’s End

The Birds is one of the most iconic horror films of all time and one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best works.

Thirty years after The Birds was released in 1963, someone decided it needed a sequel that no one asked for. The Birds II: Land’s End was a made-for-television movie premiering on Showtime. It was as good as you expected it to be.

American Psycho 2

While there’s plenty of buzz about the American Psycho remake, don’t forget about its little known sequel starring Mila Kunis.

Initially, the film had no connection to the original 2000 movie, but the script was altered to become a sequel nobody asked for. Kunis has publicly denounced the movie.

Starship Troopers 2

The original Starship Troopers has become a cult classic thanks to its commentary on authoritarian rule, colonialism, and xenophobia.

Its sequel, with a budget of just $7 million, fails to deliver the same impact as its predecessor.

Son of Mask

You can point to several 1990s comedies that helped launch Jim Carrey to stardom, but I’d argue that The Mask is undoubtedly at the top of the list.

He wasn’t around for the 2005 sequel, though. Instead, Jamie Kennedy is in the leading role as New Line Cinema tries to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Spoiler alert: they did not.

The Jesus Rolls

Look, I love The Big Lebowski. I love the bowling scene with “The Jesus.”

That doesn’t mean we need an entire movie dedicated to him, though. Some things are better left alone, such as The Big Lebowski.

Someone thought this would be a great movie, but that’s just like, their opinion, man.

Bloodsport 2

If you’re going to make a sequel to an iconic action movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, you better deliver.

Believe it or not, Bloodsport II did and has become a cult classic today. Its success helped spawn two more sequels in 1998 and 1999.

Benchwarmers 2

The Benchwarmers is a stereotypical 2000s comedy starring Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Jon Heder. Based on its cast alone, you could probably guess what the movie was like.

As expected, it received negative reviews, but that didn’t stop a direct-to-video sequel from being released in 2019.

Jingle All The Way 2

The original Jingle All The Way is one of my favorite Christmas movies. It’s nonsensical and stupid, but somehow, a lot of fun, thanks partly to its starring cast.

None of them would return for the 2014 direct-to-video sequel starring Larry the Cable Guy, which WWE Studios produced.

Like many other WWE Studios films, it was a disaster.

Every Home Alone After Home Alone 3

Everyone knows and loves the first two Home Alone films with McCauley Caulkin. Most people know the third movie, which featured a whole new cast.

That wasn’t the end of the franchise, though. There were three more of these movies made!
