A brand-new StarCraft game is in development at Blizzard Entertainment. The brand announced the latest entry in its long-running StarCraft franchise — technically the third in the series — at BlizzCon 2026 on Saturday.
Blizzard revealed the project with a suspenseful cinematic trailer that confirms the game’s official title, StarCraft, and its tentative launch window of 2030. The studio also confirmed that StarCraft would be an open-world, narrative-focused shooter set “decades after the events of StarCraft II.”
“The sons and daughters of the dominion answered the call when mankind needed them most,” a hard-boiled message on the updated StarCraft website reads.
“Their sacrifice bought us another day. Now the call comes to you. Carry their strength forward. No matter the cost.”
Blizzard Entertainment’s militaristic sci-fi series got its start in the late nineties; the first StarCraft entry launched on Windows PCs in North America in March 1998. The game was a critical and commercial success and later became one of the year’s bestselling video games.
Blizzard Entertainment was on a hot streak; StarCraft was the company’s third consecutive blockbuster, behind Warcraft II and Diablo in 1996 and 1997, respectively.
BlizzCon 2026 — the first BlizzCon event in three years — is still live. Head to Blizzard Entertainment’s official YouTube channel to tune in. While main stage announcements won’t carry on all weekend, the brand promises a weekend-long event celebrating all brand titles, like Overwatch, Diablo, and World of Warcraft.
“This is just the beginning. Led by Dan Hay, StarCraft is early in development, and we’ll have more to share over the coming years, including gameplay reveals, deep dives into the world, and more.”
