‘Elden Ring Nightreign’ sells 2 million units in one day

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Nightreign hit retailers less than 24 hours ago, and publisher Bandai Namco is already reporting the highly anticipated release has eclipsed some impressive milestones.

A translated news release from Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. says the RPG has “surpassed 2 million copies shipped worldwide on the first day of release.” Bandai Namco’s website says the figures reflect the game’s launch on PS5 & PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and PC.

Nightreign propelled to the top of Steam’s most-played chart, peaking at 313,000 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.

The release continues, with the studio touching on the game’s development and thanking dedicated fans:

”Like ELDEN RING, this game was released on Friday, May 30, 2025, and is a project that combines FromSoftware’s development capabilities with Bandai Namco Entertainment’s marketing capabilities utilizing its overseas network. While retaining some elements of enemies and weapons that appear in ELDEN RING, this game has a revamped game design. As a cooperative survival action game in which players take on overwhelming situations together with other players, the thrilling experience has been highly praised, and the total number of copies shipped worldwide exceeded 2 million on the first day of release.

“Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the fans around the world who have enjoyed this title, and will continue to strive to create high-quality content that will entertain players for a long time to come.”

The official Elden Ring X account (formerly Twitter) also issued a heartfelt thanks to players: “Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose up against it. Thank you for your support.”

The new release’s success comes as no shock to those familiar with the IP. Nightreign‘s wildly popular predecessor, 2022’s Elden Ring, has surpassed 30 million sold in just three years, according to an X post from April 28. The game is also getting the silver-screen treatment, with an A24 adaptation currently in the works.

Despite its solid performance, cumulative Nightreign reviews on Steam are currently “Mixed.”
