Watch out, Pixar! Early on Tuesday, Nintendo released a four-minute, saccharine-sweet short to its Nintendo Today! app. The touching clip, titled “Close to You,” tells the touching story of a young child pursuing a misplaced pacifier. The video was also shared on Nintendo’s YouTube accounts.

Nintendo shared the mysterious clip without context; the short story was released without an explanation or statement linking it to another project. The video’s description only shows its title, leaving viewers to wonder whether this touching short is related to a Nintendo game, a new studio animation project, or something else.

For what it’s worth, Nintendo has its own animation studio, Nintendo Pictures, which it has owned and operated since 2022. Formerly CG production studio Dynamo Pictures, Nintendo Pictures released a statement following its acquisition. “We aim to have consumers around the world learn about Nintendo characters through video, and to create unique videos that will remain in their memory forever,” the brand’s Google-translated mission statement reads.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to Outrun Gaming for more, and check Nintendo of America’s social media presence for more information — provided we get it, of course.
