The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever. The brand confirmed the hardware’s record-breaking sales in its latest financial report (via GI.biz). The policy briefing, released on Wednesday, November 5, breaks down the brand’s Q2 results for the fiscal year ending in March 2026. Nintendo reports that more than 10 million fans have purchased a Switch 2 in the four months following its June 5 launch, doubling the original Nintendo Switch’s sales performance in the same time frame. These figures make the Switch 2 Nintendo’s best-selling console in its decades-long history.
The original Switch handheld continues to sell, although sales have slowed. The Switch 2’s predecessor sold 2 million units in Q2, prompting the brand to lower sales expectations. Altogether, Nintendo hopes to sell 4 million original Switch systems in 2025, a drop from its previous goal of 4.5 million.

Nintendo Switch 2 Sales
The Q2 rundown, spearheaded by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, addressed Switch 2 hardware and software sales.
“Based on the sales performance in the first half of the fiscal year and the outlook going forward, we have made modifications to our financial forecast, including a revision in our full-year sales unit forecast. Net sales has been modified to 2,250.0 billion yen, operating profit to 370.0 billion yen, ordinary profit to 460.0 billion yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent to 350.0 billion yen. Taking into account the change in our dividend policy and the modification of the consolidated financial forecast, the forecast for the annual dividend per share has been increased by 52 yen to 181 yen.”

The games giant reports that around 84% of Switch 2 users are players who have upgraded their original Switch, while 16% are new users. “Consumers who purchased the Switch between its launch in 2017 and the launch of the Switch 2 have been uniformly migrating to the Switch 2,” Furukawa said.
Nintendo says potential Switch 2 buyers may still face inventory hurdles this holiday season, a preexisting issue that has been complicated by the ebb and flow of President Donald Trump’s tariffs:
“The system is already in the hands of many consumers worldwide, and we believe we are maintaining positive momentum heading into its first holiday season. However, as we mentioned prior to launch, demand has exceeded our expectations in some regions, leading to ongoing product shortages. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We will continue to strive to meet the strong demand by ensuring a stable supply of hardware.”

Nintendo reports it sold 20.62 million Switch 2 software units during the first half of its fiscal year, but original system software sales are holding strong. In comparison, software sales for the original Nintendo Switch came to 61.56 million units.

Furukawa reports that around 90% of Switch 2 users have played Mario Kart World, which was sold both independently and as a bundle with the console. So far, Nintendo has sold around 9.57 million copies of Mario Kart World since its release on June 5. This figure includes bundle sales and digital sales. Donkey Kong Bananza, the brand’s second blockbuster release, sold 2.6 million units within its first 3 months. With Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond expected to hit shelves ahead of the holiday shopping season, Nintendo is likely to see even greater sales figures for its first-party releases.
Furukawa said strong third-party publisher support has led the Nintendo Switch 2 to have the “largest third-party software lineup for a new Nintendo hardware ever.”
Brand Performance
Following the glowing report, Nintendo raised its sales forecast for the Switch 2 for the remainder of the fiscal year. The Super Mario maker bumped expectations from a previous 15 million units to 19 million, a figure it hopes to reach by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026. Overall, brand revenue reached ¥527.2 billion ($3.4 billion) in Q2, a sizeable jump from the expected ¥461 billion (about $2.9 billion). Nintendo also saw a considerable spike in net profit. The brand reached ¥102.9 billion, nearly doubling its original goal of ¥63.6 billion.
Nintendo’s total revenue increased by 90% year-over-year, while brand profit rose by more than 270%.
