Nintendo has confirmed an all-new (and free!) software update is coming to Pikmin 4 next month. The update, available to Pikmin 4 players at no extra cost, includes an all-new Field Camera, difficulty-modifying Creature Activity Levels, and Decor Pikmin that follow players from console to their Pikmin Bloom mobile app. The update, available in November, will not include a Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade.

Nintendo expanded on the update in a press release:
“Gather up – the Rescue Corps is calling! A new, free update for the Pikmin™ 4 game is landing on the Nintendo Switch™ system, available in November. This update introduces adorable and unique-looking Pikmin for your squad called Decor Pikmin, an in-game camera for snapping pics and two new options to customize the challenge of your expedition.”
The update news comes just two weeks after Nintendo shared its “Close to You” animated short on its Nintendo Today! app. The touching two-part short film was confirmed to be the first full project from its internal animation studio, Nintendo Pictures. Nintendo acquired the studio — formerly Dynamo Pictures — in 2022.
Pikmin 4 Update Details

The November Pikmin 4 update brings new in-game capabilities as well as faces not yet seen in the franchise’s console entries:
-
Decor Pikmin: The Pikmin Bloom-exclusive subspecies, only found in Nintendo’s smart-device app, are finally coming to the core franchise. Decor Pikmin are just that; these Pikmin can be found wearing found decorations. Nintendo’s press release says players “may see them wearing something like a wind-up toy, a doughnut, a snow hat and much more. Decor Pikmin you gather in the new Pikmin 4 update can also be transferred to your squad in Pikmin Bloom, including some that are completely new!”
-
Field Camera: We love a comprehensive Photo Mode! Snap snazzy shots of your stylish crew and, of course, the titular critters. Find Oatchi’s good side by shooting from various angles, hide characters (hopefully Louie), and zshuzh up your favorite pics with in-game filters, fun frames, and scrapbook-like stamps. Nintendo’s press release warns, however, that “[t]he camera may even be the key to adding Decor Pikmin to your crew … “
-
New Creature Activity Levels: Cozy gamers rejoice; Pikmin 4 is even cozier with the low-stress, subdued Relaxed Mode. In the new game mode, “creatures won’t attack unless you attack them,” Nintendo says. Players hoping for a more intense adventure can try Fierce Mode, but if that gets to be too much, players can change their difficulty at any point via the game’s settings.
In more Pikmin news, Pikmin Bloom will welcome Ice Pikmin to the smart-device app. Their arrival will come alongside the app’s fourth anniversary.
About Pikmin 4

Pikmin 4, first released in July 2023, is the fourth entry in the mainline franchise. Explorers join their furry friend Oatchi and their plantlike Pikmin pals in tow. “On your adventure, you’ll trek across a mysterious planet, rescue those in need, collect curios and resources, and more. You can even play with a friend on the same system in co-op mode and strategic Dandori Battles.”
