On Thursday, Londoners flocked to social media to share photos of a Metroid Prime 4 advertisement claiming the highly anticipated title was “out now.”
The official Nintendo signage, found on the London Underground, prompted unsurprising fan enthusiasm. After massive AAA hits like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered successfully shadow-dropped, some radically optimistic fans crossed their fingers for a similarly stealthy release.
However, vocal fan fervor prompted Nintendo to quell rumors. In a statement to VCG, the brand said the Metroid signage is “incorrect.”
“We can confirm that the ‘Out Now’ message on this advert is incorrect. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are not yet available, and are scheduled for release in 2025,” a Nintendo spokesperson told VCG. The signage’s layout bears a striking resemblance to the brand’s existing Mario Kart World advert, leading some to speculate that its designer utilized a template, forgetting to remove the “Out Now” copy.
Passionate and vocal fans of the brand haven’t stopped speculating since the Nintendo Switch 2 was first announced this past January. We’re now just two weeks post-launch, and consumer interest in the record-breaking handheld isn’t slowing. Nintendo’s Kong-centered 3D platformer Donkey Kong Bananza is currently the brand’s focus, the exploratory adventure game set to swing to retailers and the Nintendo eShop on July 17, 2025. It’s unlikely the brand will detract from Bananza‘s launch with an internet-breaking announcement; hopeful Samus Aran fans’ odds will presumably rise once DK’s done with the circuit.
First announced during an E3 Nintendo Direct in 2017, the Retro Studios-developed sci-fi game is set for release sometime this year.
