Resident Evil Requiem passes 5m units sold

Japanese game company Capcom announced on Wednesday that Resident Evil Requiem, the latest entry in the brand’s globally beloved survival horror franchise, has sold more than 5 million units. The developer-publisher shared news of the game’s retail performance in a new press release. “Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that worldwide sales of Resident Evil Requiem, released on February 27, 2026, surpassed 5 million units […] Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”

Capcom goes on to acknowledge the game’s technical allure in its news release, highlighting the new installment’s breathtakingly lifelike visuals. “Resident Evil Requiem was developed using RE ENGINE, Capcom’s proprietary game engine, which allowed the company to deliver visuals in photorealistic detail, including the characters’ skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair, as well as the translucency of light.”

Capcom also underscores the new release’s accessibility, benefiting new fans as well as gamers who require accommodations. “[Requiem] offers a new game experience for a broad fanbase through multiple difficulty settings that accommodate everyone from newcomers to experienced players, as well as allowing players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real-time to suit each player’s individual play styles.”

Resident Evil Requiem released on Friday, February 27 — less than a week ago — and the game’s already record-breaking performance is capturing the attention of new and seasoned franchise fans. On Steam, Capcom’s contemporary horror hit currently ranks no. 1 in daily active users (DAUs). While playership peaked at about 344,000 users on Saturday, Feb. 28, Resident Evil Requiem continues to draw players in droves. At the time of writing, SteamDB estimates about 160,000 in-game users. Requiem is also Steam’s most-wishlisted title.

Capcom closes its press release by confirming that the Resident Evil IP has sold more than 183 million units since its debut in 1996, solidifying its spot as the company’s most commercially successful franchise. Additionally, the official Requiem website now displays the game’s sales record.
