The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the nominees for its 98th Annual Academy Awards on Thursday morning, and Ryan Coogler’s thriller Sinners leads with a historic 16 nominations — the most in the ceremony’s nearly 100-year run. The supernatural horror starring Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Wunmi Mosaku dominated theaters following its April 2025 release, generating nearly $400 million worldwide and fueling enough fan interest to warrant bringing it back to big screens in a late 2025 IMAX reissue.
Sinners‘ 16 Oscar nominations put it above past record-holders All About Eve (1950), La La Land (2016), and Titanic (1997), previously tied with 14 nominations each.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is this year’s second-most nominated film, with 13 nominations; Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, and Frankenstein follow with nine nominations apiece.
The nominees for the 98th Oscars were announced by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman, and late-night icon Conan O’Brien will return to host the ceremony for a second consecutive year. Check out the complete list of nominees and tune into the 98th Academy Awards ceremony when it airs live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
