Video game studio Skydance Games announced on Thursday that it’s delaying the release of its much-hyped superhero title, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, for a second time. The upcoming action-adventure game, set during World War II, features Marvel heroes Captain America and Black Panther. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was previously expected to launch early next year, but according to Skydance, the game now has no tentative release date.

Skydance shared news of the delay in a statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter):

“At Skydance Games, our goal is to deliver unforgettable, premium games that honor the characters and worlds we’re fortunate to work with.

“Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an ambitious project, and we are committed to ensuring it meets the level of quality that our team, players, and fans expect.

“To fully realize our vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window beyond early 2026. “We’re grateful for the passion and support from the community and players around the world. The team is working hard to create something truly special, and we look forward to sharing more with you as development progresses.

Notable Game Delays

This is the second delay for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Skydance announced the project’s first postponement in an X post in May 2025. “We have an important update: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will now be launching in early 2026,” Skydance wrote. “Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish, and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision. We have some exciting things in store and look forward to sharing more soon!”

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra isn’t the first prominent game delay making headlines. On Thursday, Nov. 6, Rockstar Games announced it would push back the launch date of its highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI to November 2026 from May 2026.

The action-packed comic book epic was first revealed at the March 2024 Game Developers Conference (GDC). In Marvel 1934: Rise of Hydra, a shield-wielding Captain America, played by Drew Moerlein (Horizon Forbidden West), joins Khary Payton (Invincible; Teen Titans) as Black Panther Azzuri. Marvel’s plot synopsis says the pair must “overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy.”
