Steam Next Fest is back, and the Valve-owned digital game platform is packed with a ton of new — and completely free! — video game demos. The triennial “celebration of upcoming games,” last held the week of October 13, 2025, gives the platform’s users unmitigated access to downloadable demos for both big-budget AAA titles and indie game underdogs.
Steam Next Fest effectively connects players on the platform with game developers from around the globe, encouraging the former to offer constructive feedback. Another perk for indie developers? Steam Next Fest often drives a rise in Wishlist activity, a metric many independent studios rely on to boost Steam storefront visibility. Add in rising social media engagement, content creators’ streams across all platforms, recommendations from friends, and other attention, and it’s clear why modest, self-funded game studios could stand to benefit.
Indecisive? Me, too. Luckily, we’re not constrained by conservative download limits; players can enjoy as many demos as they can handle. Gamers can participate in Steam Next Fest from now ‘til 10 a.m. PST on Monday, March 2. Ready to explore some game demos? Check out some of the Steam Next Fest downloads we’re excited about:
ShipShaper

“ShipShaper is a small, explorative ship builder I made for the simple pleasure of shaping boats and ships,” ShipShaper dev Tomas Sala says in the game’s Steam description. “You pull, push, and drag forms into place, creating everything from humble fishing vessels to tall ships, ironclads, and early dreadnoughts.” While the full game’s release date hasn’t been announced, players can still ready their sea legs with the free ShipShaper demo, available now on Steam.
The Bearer & The Last Flame

The Bearer & The Last Flame, an upcoming dark fantasy Souls-like from Dark Reaper and Meridiem, is set in “a realm where death is rampant, a living soul has received his commission, to carry the last flame and light the lands of the night, the dark lands.” As the bearer of the world’s last flame, players must safely transport the final light across five desecrated kingdoms. Check out The Bearer & The Last Flame‘s free Steam Next Fest demo today, and watch for the full title’s launch on March 6, 2026.
