Bladesong, the intricate indie swordmaking game from Mythwright and SUN AND SERPENT creations, has surpassed 100,000 Steam Wishlist additions. The innovative swordsmith simulator launched a free playable demo as part of Steam’s thrice-annual Next Fest event. Bladesong is launching in Early Access later this year, and the team behind it hopes to capture would-be artisans’ attention through word of mouth, social media shares, and by teasing the game’s entrancing visuals. Check out Mythwright’s YouTube video celebrating the momentous occasion here.
Stuart Morton, Mythwright’s publishing director, is quoted in a new press release. “Being able to announce this major milestone during Steam Next Fest is incredibly exciting for all of us here at Mythwright, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to the BLADESONG community for all of the passion and excitement they’ve shown as we count down to the game’s release,” said Morton. “Like true blacksmiths, the team at SUN AND SERPENT creations have been honing their craft for years to develop this very special game, and we’re delighted to be celebrating this incredible milestone with them today.”
About Bladesong

In Bladesong, PC-based craftspeople can customize stunning swords with freeform blade shaping capabilities and an elaborate modular building system. Bladesmiths-in-training can hone their skills by assembling weapons from myriad worlds and settings. Not feeling the old-school Medieval vibes? No worries — players can also make Eastern- and Western-inspired weaponry and incorporate futuristic as well as historic elements.
Bladesong boasts shopkeeper elements, too. In the game’s Story Mode, gamers can take client commissions, tailoring each creation with its wielder in mind with the help of real-world physics. If you feel like freestyling, forge to your heart’s content in the sandbox-y Creative Mode. Tinker with tons of parts, tools, materials, and more.
Bladesong‘s demo has also been updated to feature two new story levels, allowing players to continue their adventure ahead of the game’s Early Access launch. Creative Mode got an improved sword part-bending system, according to the team, as well as some choice new sword materials and an additional sword slot. Yay, more swords!
About Steam Next Fest

Next Fest is a digital event from the online games storefront Steam, highlighting indie studios’ free playable demos. Steam Next Fest October 2025 kicked off on Monday, October 13, and will run through Monday, October 20. The ongoing event is the third of three Next Fests held this year; the others occurred in February and June. Steam’s weeklong “celebration of upcoming games” allows players to download complimentary demos, offer real-time developer feedback, and beef up their Wishlists.
Independent groups and more intimate teams often lack the inflated budgets of AAA teams. However, word of mouth, social media engagement, and Steam Wishlist can help promote their projects. That’s where Steam Next Fest comes in.
There is no download limit, so provided you’ve got the time, patience, and hard drive space to spare, you can pick up as many titles as you’d like. Steam offers players advice on “How to Next Fest”:
- “Play Demos: Hover over any game and you’ll immediately find a button to install the playable demo. Try one! Or try a dozen.
- “Wishlist Your Favorites: Find a game you want to hear about when it launches? Hover over any game and click the star icon in the upper-right corner to add it to your wishlist. You’ll get a spiffy email notification when that game releases.
- “How is Next Fest organized? Next Fest kicks off with most sections sorted randomly. Steam uses what it learns in the first few days of the Fest to better recommend games to players from Wednesday onward”
Bladesong will be available on Steam Early Access in late 2025, but you can still add it to your Steam Wishlist today. Forgers hoping to stay on the bleeding edge (no pun intended) can follow the team on social media or the game’s Discord community.
