TTRPG ‘Frosthaven’ gets video game adaptation

On Thursday, publisher Arc Games, in partnership with Asmodee and Cephalofair Games, launched Early Access for its video game adaptation of the popular tabletop role-playing hit FROSTHAVEN.

The board game adaptation kickstarted Early Access on July 31, which it says features about one-third of the game’s Launch Day content, “with more content and gameplay improvements intended to be added in game updates that are expected to be released in intervals approximately three months from each other.” Gamers who dive into the title now will be able to share player feedback to help shape and evolve the game throughout its Early Access run.

Arc Games has also partnered with game publisher Twin Sails, the studio behind the digital version of FROSTHAVEN‘s “spiritual successor,” Gloomhaven, to create a bundle containing both titles. The pair will be available at a slightly lower price to celebrate the new arrival — 10% off the bundle’s retail price of $74.98, according to Arc Games’ most recent news release.

FROSTHAVEN developer Snapshot Games says the fantastical role-playing game will remain in Early Access for about a year, but Arc’s news release says that “this can change depending on the community’s feedback and requests for content.”

In the news release, those involved stress the importance of player feedback and its impact on project development:

“The team developed FROSTHAVEN with Early Access in mind, as they feel strongly that player feedback will be critical to this ambitious process of transforming a board game of this scale into a video game. Early Access will help to bring the game to its full potential before it enters the 1.0 launch. Players are encouraged to share their feedback via FROSTHAVEN’s official Discord, as the team will continue to be actively monitoring, collecting and responding to feedback that’s given there – and using the feedback to discover ways to shape FROSTHAVEN during Early Access.

“With FROSTHAVEN, the brand-new character classes, each featuring unique playstyles and abilities, make it so that every decision matters. Players will need to balance risk and reward, working towards the best synergies between the classes comprising their party. Carefully managing resources is paramount to progress through a gripping campaign, set in a vast world filled with menacing enemies and diverse environments.”

Adventurers moving their stories from traditional tabletops to a digital world can anticipate:

  • UNIQUE CHARACTERS – Choose from six starting character classes—including the Banner Spear, Boneshaper, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade, and Deathwalker.

    • Additional classes will be unlocked as you progress your campaign.

    • Each class features its own unique abilities and playstyles to master.

  • DEEP, TACTICAL COMBAT – Engage in deep, tactical turn-based combat, testing your skills against an array of enemies and formidable bosses.

    • Utilize an ability card system that requires careful planning to unleash devastating attacks, execute powerful combos, and try keeping your party members alive.

  • BUILD YOUR OUTPOST – Manage the Outpost, constructing and upgrading various buildings, unlocking new game features and mechanics.

  • AN EVER-GROWING EXPERIENCE – The Early Access release launches with 35+ quests across Acts 1 and 2, with over 130 total quests planned for the campaign as development continues.

    • The included Tutorial and Introductory quest line allows both new and old players to get accommodated with the basic mechanics and gameplay.

  • CO-OP ONLINE MULTIPLAYER – FROSTHAVEN supports 2-4 players so you can play with your friends anywhere and at any time.

  • A STUNNING WORLD TO EXPLORE – A stunning art style, highly detailed models and textures, and expressive animations all bring the world of FROSTHAVEN to life.
