Ubisoft Barcelona developers strike over brand layoffs

Employees at Ubisoft Barcelona are striking ahead of proposed layoffs that could impact 51 workers — nearly 30 percent of Ubisoft Barcelona’s total workforce. Ubisoft’s Barcelona office focuses predominantly on the label’s popular Rainbow Six franchise.

The staff demonstrations, first reported by local industry media outlets such as Hobby Consolas following an announcement from Spanish trade union Confederación General del Trabajo, will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from now through Thursday, July 16, 2026. Total, employees will engage in six demonstrations over the course of three weeks.

Proposed cuts at Ubisoft Barcelona follow layoffs across other studio locations earlier this month. On June 10, Ubisoft announced it would kickstart brand-wide restructuring efforts by shuttering its Winnipeg and Belgrade offices; the same report suggested the brand’s Barcelona branch could face a similar fate. Altogether, June 2026 layoffs at Ubisoft have impacted nearly 400 employees.

Ubisoft Barcelona’s developer strikes, which officially began yesterday (Tuesday), June 30, also come with a set of demands. Chief among them is the retention of all 51 workers facing termination. Striking employees are also pushing for the company to protect its employees from future sweeping dismissals for at least five years.

Other demands include the return of a comprehensive remote work model — 60 percent to ensure “effective work-life balance” — after Ubisoft instituted a controversial return-to-office policy back in February, the immediate unfreezing of internal promotions that workers say were “unilaterally paralyzed by the company,” as well as a comprehensive formal review of salary and benefits packages.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
