Being able to properly cast a movie is just as important as every other process of production. Audiences have to be captivated by what they’re watching.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see well established actors taking on high profile roles. Sadly, just because an actor is successful doesn’t mean they were right for the role.
These are some of the worst castings in movie history.
Tom Holland – Uncharted

Holland has enjoyed a successful career as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker, but his filmography outside the MCU hasn’t met the hype.
One example is his casting as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Holland’s babyface felt out of place throughout the film.
Tom Cruise – Jack Reacher

There’s no denying that Cruise is an excellent action star. Just look at the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Having said that, it’s clear that Alan Ritchson is a far better choice to play the titular character. Cruise’s short stature (only 5’7″) hurt him in the Jack Reacher movies.
John Wayne – The Conqueror

This is not a knock on Wayne’s status as a legendary actor, but he’s not the person to be playing Genghis Khan.
Having a white person play someone of Asian descent was offensive even in the 1950s.

Mickey Rooney – Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Believe it or not, Rooney’s portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi in the 1961 film is even more offensive.
It’s impossible to take Rooney’s performance as anything but offensive.
Vince Vaughn – Psycho

First of all, I still can’t comprehend why a shot-for-shot remake of Psycho even exists. Getting beyond that, out of all the people to play Norman Bates, you choose Vince Vaughn?
He can deliver dramatic performances, but this isn’t the place or time.
Jesse Eisenberg – Batman v Superman

The same is said for Eisenberg, most recently demonstrated with the Oscar-winning film A Real Pain.
However, Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor feels like an over-the-top performance in which he overacts to help compensate for a poor script.
Kevin Costner – Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Alan Rickman’s casting as the Sheriff of Nottingham is absolutely perfect and almost makes the movie.
The issue is that Costner’s casting as Robin Hood doesn’t work quite as well. Costner doesn’t come off as Robin Hood; it feels more like he’s Kevin Costner cosplaying as Robin Hood.
George Clooney – Batman and Robin

Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and even Val Kilmer have all demonstrated that they can successfully portray the Caped Crusader on the big screen.
There’s a lot wrong with Batman and Robin, and one of the issues is certainly George Clooney playing Batman.
Colin Farrell – Alexander

Warner Bros. Pictures.
I remember learning about Alexander the Great in school and his conquests of the known world. One of my favorite hypothetical scenarios in school was wondering how he would fare against the might of Ancient Rome.
In all my time visualizing Alexander the Great, I never in a million years pictured Colin Farrell.
Topher Grace – Spider-Man 3

You’d figure that with Venom being a cool and iconic villain in the Spider-Man lore, Eddie Brock’s first appearance in a Spider-Man movie would stick the landing.
Alas, that wasn’t the case in Spider-Man 3. Topher Grace, known to many still as Eric Foreman, didn’t come off as sincere and was severely lacking compared to Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman.
