On Tuesday, Kojima Productions confirmed the release of a 5-hour Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Game Trial. The short-but-sweet demo, available only for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, allows players to put a few hours into the cerebral walking sim before deciding if they’d like to pick up a copy.
Those who end up deciding to buy the full title will be able to pick up exactly where they left off in the Game Trial; players will retain all in-game progress, including trophies.
For the uninitiated, PlayStation Plus Game Trials give players the chance to briefly dive into a game before deciding to officially add it to their collection. Alongside the star-studded Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are countless other hits, including DOOM: The Dark Ages, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Black Myth: Wukong, and many, many others.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a follow-up to its 2019 predecessor. The surreal, exploratory titles are the brainchildren of Kojima Productions’ own Hideo Kojima. The game designer, writer, director, and producer has worked within the industry since the 1980s, his eye-popping portfolio comprising myriad projects as well as his best-known work, the Metal Gear franchise.
The Death Stranding sequel features performances from frequent Kojima collaborators, including Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Léa Seydoux (Dune: Part Two), Elle Fanning (The Great), award-winning voice actor Troy Baker, and Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro. The game’s protagonist, Sam Bridges (Reedus), embarks on a journey to pull humanity from the brink of extinction.
Other creatives returned to contribute to the second Death Stranding entry, including its director of character and mechanical design, Yoji Shinkawa, musical director Ludvig Forssell, and title designer Kyle Cooper.
