French turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 now holds the record for most-awarded Game of the Year recipient in medium history, edging out FromSoftware’s 2022 open-world hit, Elden Ring. In a new post on ResetEra, user Angie shared a comprehensive collection of all 2025 Game of the Year nominations and recipients. The lengthy list includes Expedition 33‘s win at the Geoff Keighley-led TGAs, the New York Game Awards, and year-end summaries from podcasts and small gaming-focused publications.
“Yesterday, Wccftech released their best games of the year, with Clair Obscur Expedition 33 being the Game of the Year winner at their awards. With that award counted, Expedition 33 now holds 436 Game of the Year awards, surpassing Elden Ring and crowning it the most awarded game of all time,” user Angie explains at the start of their post.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s hundreds of wins put the Belle Epoque RPG atop the list of the most-awarded Game of the Year recipients ever. Open-world blockbuster Elden Ring follows at 435, though user Angie later clarified that the count for the FromSoftware RPG “is actually 429, but [they] made a mistake when making the thread.”
The Last of Us Part II takes the no. 3 spot with 326 Game of the Year nods, while Larian’s Baldur’s Gate III and CD Projekt Red‘s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt take the fourth and fifth slots with 288 and 281 wins, respectively.
ResetEra’s eligibility guidelines say that “any console, PC, handheld or mobile video game is included, provided that it is named the overall Game of the Year (GOTY) from an eligible media outlet.” This includes DLC and content expansions for eligible titles as well as remakes.
“Votes awarded to non-remastered or non-remade ‘ports’ (i.e. a game re-released on new platforms in largely the same state) will be counted toward the totals in the year of the title’s initial U.S. release date. To be eligible, the awarded title needs to have been released in the country of the media outlet. For media outlet critics, the title needs to have been released for review to critics before the publication of the award. For ‘readers’ choice’ votes, the title needs to have been released to the public before voting begins.”
Additionally, “websites, magazines, newspapers, radio, TV broadcasts, podcasts, industry ceremonies, and online entertainment companies” are eligible to contribute if they’ve been running for at least one year, avoid AI content, have not displayed “toxic behavior” or published “discriminatory articlees,” have more than one staff member, and don’t have “an overly restrictive scope.”
