Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios announced in an X post on Friday that it would delay the release of its fantasy franchise follow-up, Fable. Previously set to release sometime in Fall 2026, Fable will now land on PC and console in February 2027. Ouch.
“This is [sic] year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy,” XBOX’s new social media update starts, “from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI.”
“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”
The post, published at 12:30 p.m. ET, has been viewed nearly 200,000 times in just half an hour. XBOX provides, in its own replies, a link to a full XBOX Podcast episode in which players can hear more about the delay and the brand’s upcoming Games Showcase from XBOX Chief Content Officer Matt Booty.
About ‘Fable’
The high-fantasy RPG franchise, first introduced by Lionhead Studios in 2004, brings players to the mystical, medieval times-inspired village of Albion. As players’ town is ransacked, their father murdered, and their sister kidnapped, they must choose to heroically avenge their family and home — unless, of course, they opt for a darker path.
Gamers can forge bonds with locals, hone their tactical and magical skills, explore a vast world, and ultimately influence their character’s morality and NPCs’ perceptions of their avatar through a unique series of interactions, conversations, and decisions.
Fable, developed by Playground Games and published by XBOX Game Studios, will launch on XBOX Series, XBOX Game Pass, PS5, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store in February 2027. In the meantime, revisit the game’s appearance at the XBOX Games Showcase 2024.
