Warner Bros. Japan Anime Production has released the first promotional trailer for its anticipated adaptation of BLADE & BASTARD, along with details on the upcoming anime’s cast and staff. The project, first announced back in October 2024, is expected to premiere sometime in 2027.
BLADE & BASTARD, originally created by Goblin Slayer author Kumo Kagyu and Overlord illustrator so-bin, is a dark fantasy tale set in the world of Sir-Tech’s fantasy role-playing video game Wizardry. The teaser, released on Tuesday morning, gives audiences around the globe their first glimpse of the new high-fantasy series adaptation.
The original series is a “light novel,” an approachable piece of Japanese young adult literature that incorporates manga-inspired visuals.
Since its first volume was released in December 2022, BLADE & BASTARD has been translated into ten languages and boasts about 700,000 copies in circulation. The light novel, published under Drecom’s DRE Novels imprint, also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Makoto Fugetsu, currently serialized in Japan.
“In a world where death lurks around every corner, adventurers forge bonds, confront their destinies, and descend into the labyrinth,” the teaser’s description taunts. “Welcome to the dungeon.”
