Limber up, bestie, because it’s time for a Big Walk! On Tuesday, indie game developer House House (of Untitled Goose Game fame) and Thank Goodness You’re Here! publisher Panic released their colorful and cooperative adventure Big Walk on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The exploration-forward multiplayer game prioritizes collaboration among friends, effective communication, creative puzzle-solving, and in-game sightseeing.
In Big Walk, players and up to 11 of their friends go on a quirky journey through a scenic environment inspired by Australia’s Wilsons Prom National Park. Work your way through the brush by tackling teamwork-forward challenges, tinkering with toys, and unlocking new and useful tools, all to discover what sits behind the big wall. You’ll also be able to bounce along to Big Walk’s original soundtrack from AKSFX, which features two hours of totally unique audio across several in-game “radio stations.”
Ultimately, your journey is yours — if your group feels more like telling spooky stories in dimly-lit caves than scaling cliffs, that’s cool, too. Kick back and watch the sun go down, share some laughs, and snap some screenshots to capture memorable moments. For extra laughs, lean into the game’s proximity chat, which incorporates wacky and crackly walkie-talkie sound effects.

“Big Walk is our attempt to capture our favourite parts of playing games together online. We started working on it during COVID lockdown, when that was often the main way we’d spend time with each other, and we’ve really tried to dial into the dynamics that make for a special shared experience,” said House House’s Stuart Gillespie-Cook in a news release. “It’s an investigation of all the strange wrinkles that make communicating through a little character in a shared world so unique, while still including all the things we love about being with friends in real life – we want Big Walk to have some of the manic energy of being on the second day of a hike and talking about whatever nonsense comes into your head.”
“When we started working on Big Walk in 2020, we thought we were making a small, proof-of-concept prototype, as a way to learn the ropes of online multiplayer games,” House House’s Jake Strasser also shared. “We figured we’d spend a few months making this thing; figure out the basics; and then move on to our Big Ambitious Game. But we just kept having so much fun playing it that we didn’t want to stop working on it, and we just let it grow and grow into something bigger and more ambitious than we could have imagined. Six years later, we still love playing Big Walk together, and we’re thrilled to finally share it with the rest of the world.”
Big Walk is available now for $19.99 on Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5; the game is also out on the latter’s monthly PlayStation Plus subscription service. Players picking up Big Walk before Tuesday, August 18, can enjoy a 25 percent launch-day discount. Steam users can also save with the Big Walk x PEAK bundle, which pairs both exploratory indie games for just $20.68.
