Roguelite brawler Mexican Ninja out now on Steam, consoles

Take on merciless gangsters across the hybrid city of Nuevo Tokyo in the brand-new roguelite brawler Mexican Ninja. The fast-paced, action-packed title from Colombian indie developer Madbricks and publisher Amber is available now on PlayStation, XBOX, and PC via Steam.

The game’s crew shared a release announcement with followers on Steam. “WE’RE LIVE CABRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

In the message, devs confirm the game’s Steam Deck verification, a 30 percent post-launch discount through the next two weeks, and a “rager” of a launch party happening in their dedicated Discord channel. “[H]ope you enjoy the game! ARIGATOTHANKYOU!”

Mexican Ninja is a colorful, 2.5D beat-’em-up set in the culturally blended city of Nuevo Tokyo. The region is ruled over by the ruthless, relentless Narkuzas — a portmanteau of “Yakuza” and “Narcos” — and players must put an end to the cartel’s control once and for all by wiping out clan leaders.

About ‘Mexican Ninja’

In Mexican Ninja, players engage in gritty, combo-based combat and utilize powerful Mexican Jutsu moves to win over their opponents. The game’s fast-paced fights send fists flying, so make sure to hone your moves before taking on enemy Narcuza.

Mexican Ninja‘s swagger goes beyond its stylish, neon visuals and frenzied, arcade-inspired combos; the game’s slick dialogue and smart humor further elevate the adventure.

As far as roguelite elements go, Mexican Ninja features satisfying gameplay loops, virtually endless replayability, and unique, combo-forward character builds that players can customize and modify across their runs depending on their playstyle.

“The game is designed to reward mastery, timing, and experimentation,” devs explain in an August 12 Steam update, “but the roguelike progression means you’re constantly gaining new tools and learning how different builds work.” In the message, devs confirm cosmetics and mechanical upgrades carry over between runs as “permanent unlocks.”

Work your way through increasingly difficult in-game areas, each one featuring a powerful Narcuza lord waiting for you at the end. Dominate these deadly duels and send cartel to their maker, or develop your skills by training with El Mero Mero Sensei. A little practice with Sensei will help players curry favor with Mexican and Japanese spirits and expand their move catalog.

Mexican Ninja creators also said game completion time will vary greatly depending on factors like skill level and build experimentation, but they’d “wager around 8h for a first clear and 15h+ for all the side-content.”
