It’s been a busy time for Disney Lorcana fans as of late.
We recently saw the release of Attack of the Vine!, the game’s newest set, as well as a rotation in the Core Constructed format. The European and North American Nationals tournaments are about to take place, leading into Lorcana’s second ever World Championship. We’ll also see the debut of the game’s third competitive season, bringing new Disney Lorcana Challenge events to countries all over the world.
What would a trading card game’s future look like without new cards as well? We know that Hyperia City will introduce the movie Coco to the game, but what will things look like in 2027 and beyond? Today, Ravensburger answered those questions at D23 and showcased the future of Disney Lorcana.
Krystina Arielle, Elaine Chase (Head of Category, Trading Card Games at Ravensburger), Jenna Giuffrida (Senior Narrative Manager at Ravensburger), and Naomi Kim (Disney Lorcana Brand Manager) took the stage. They walked us through what the future of Lorcana holds for us.
We already knew that the next season of competitive play in Disney Lorcana would have a theme: The Season of Villainy.
It’s a nice change that helps give Lorcana’s competitive play a cohesive theme. Sadly, we’ll have to wait a little bit longer (re: tomorrow, August 15th) for more concrete details, but we did learn a little bit about the game’s next set: Hyperia City
Hyperia City is coming to Disney Lorcana in October 2026
The Disney Lorcana D23 panel gave us a quick sneak peek of what to expect in Hyperia City by giving us a tour of various neighborhoods in the city itself. Coincidentally, that included some spoilers of new upcoming cards in the set, all of which are locations:
We also had a chance to see some iconic characters make an appearance in Hyperia City. In fact, Giuffrida said that we’ll see plenty of Mickey and his friends in Hyperia City. We have confirmation of a new Mickey, Minnie, and Donald Duck card, but sadly, details on the cards have not yet been revealed. Ravensburger did confirm, however, that Mickey will be getting the Iconic treatment.
It wouldn’t be a Disney Lorcana set without Disney Princesses, and Hyperia City has those out in full force. Mulan, Belle, and Rapunzel are all returning with new cards, each of which have a revamped visual art style that helps them really pop.
Into The Inkdark features Hades as the main villain in 2027’s set in Disney Lorcana
While Hyperia City is the next set for Disney Lorcana, we already know what’s in store to start the new year. Into The Inkdark is the first 2027 set for Lorcana, and it brings with it a major change to the game: the introduction of Collector Boosters in Disney Lorcana.
Kim confirms that nothing changes in terms of what you can open in Core Booster Packs: foils, Enchants, and Iconics are still able to be opened from those packs. Here’s what you’ll get from Collector Boosters:
- 12 randomized cards, all foil and/or epic.
- Enchanted and Iconic card treatments that are unchanged from Core Booster Packs.
- Collector Boosters will be available in limited quantities at Ravensburger Play Hub stores, the Ravensburger Online Store, and select Disney locations.
- The Collector Boosters will have a “higher opportunity” to find higher rarity cards.
Into The Inkdark’s Collector Boosters will also introduce serialized cards as part of a new card rarity: Illustrious. There will be six cards in the set with the special serialized treatment, and only 23 of them will ever be printed.
It’s important to note as well that just because you open an Illustrious card doesn’t mean it’s legal in Core Constructed.
What’s Coming to Disney Lorcana in 2027
After the Inkdark, it’s time to head to space. Cosmic Quest is the second 2027 set for Disney Lorcana, “soaring into the cosmos for a galactic adventure.”
While Ravensburger didn’t announce the name of its 17th set, we do know that it will feature some pixie magic. Tinker Bell and her friends will be coming to Disney Lorcana later this year.
Ravensburger also confirmed that they’re continuing the Curator’s Collection, a set of six Disney Lorcana cards with specialized artwork which began with select Disney Princesses earlier this year. 2027 will feature a Beauty and the Beast themed collection, featuring specialized artwork for Be Our Guest, Mrs. Potts – Enchanted Teapot, Belle – Hidden Archer, Lumiere – Fiery Fiend, Gaston – Intellectual Powerhouse, and Beast – Tragic Hero, all of which are visible below.
We’ll also see the long-awaited debut of Figment in Disney Lorcana in Hyperia City, plus a Collection Quest Park Promo coming in 2027.
One of the biggest announcements of the evening may not be for 2027, as Chase confirms it’s coming around the corner, but we do (finally) have confirmation of an online digital client for Disney Lorcana for desktop and mobile. Lorcana has seen several unofficial online clients over the years, but to see Ravensburger confirm an official client is a major step forward for the future of the game.
