ReStory: Y2K-inspired tech repair game sells 300k units in one week

ReStory, the new and nostalgic consumer technology repair sim from indie game publisher tinyBuild and developer Mandragora, has surpassed an impressive sales milestone. In a new announcement, the ReStory crew revealed the title has sold more than 300,000 copies worldwide just one week after its August 6 launch on Steam.

“It has been a week since ReStory was released,” the ReStory team’s message on Steam begins, “and we are proud to announce that as of today it has been more than 300,000 of you have bought the game. Absolutely mind-blowing.”

To celebrate the game’s runaway success, developers promise an exciting content update that’ll blow players’ minds.

“More certainly than ever, we are saying that this is only the beginning for ReStory, and we are already working on a fresh gadget for our first free content update: it won’t be long, and the gadget will blow your mind, just wait for it! And we’ll be working on our long-term roadmap too. There are so many updates, fun collabs, and DLCs to come, so stay tuned.”

ReStory, set in mid-2000s Japan, is a satisfying, low-stress adventure in which players establish their own quaint tech repair shop. Disassemble recognizable devices from the early aughts like clunky cell phones, digital keychain pets, cameras, and more. You’ll even see and service some officially licensed Atari systems.

Players’ customer interactions shape their adventure, too, so every decision should be made carefully. Find something on a suspicious client’s phone? What happens next is your call — literally and figuratively.

Upgrade your toolkit to speed up sometimes monotonous repair processes — trade in your tiny detailer brush for a comparatively powerful compressed air canister, or switch your old screwdriver set for a better one that makes unscrewing battery compartment backs a breeze.

Over on Steam, ReStory boasts over 2,700 English-language reviews and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” review average. According to platform data aggregator SteamDB, the game welcomed more than 19,000 shopkeepers over the weekend.

ReStory was first announced during Wholesome Games’ Wholesome Snack Showcase last December, but the chill and nostalgic demo dominated June 2026’s Steam Next Fest. During the event, ReStory amassed several hundred thousand playtesters and Steam wishlists.
