Those of us who’ve worked in a hectic restaurant know two easy ways to get an idea of what it feels like: a 30-minute episode of FX’s drama The Bear and a similarly short round of Overcooked!, the fast-paced kitchen co-op game franchise from team17 and Ghost Town Games. There’s no better time to try the latter than today, because the Overcooked! crew is officially celebrating the BAFTA-winning franchise’s tenth anniversary.
team17 General Manager Harley Homewood shared their gratitude in a new press release. “It’s great to acknowledge that Overcooked! is still bringing new fans, from across the world, into the kitchen each and every day. Reaching over 100 million players is amazing and humbling, but also proof that our partnership with Ghost Town Games has created an iconic title able to stand the test of time.”
“When Phil and Oli set to work on Overcooked! in our lounge all those years ago, we could never have imagined where we would be 10 years later,” said Gemma Langford, Ghost Town Games’ lead writer and studio manager. “There are no words to express the gratitude we feel towards the incredible community that’s supported us. The stories, the videos, the relationships formed…it’s been truly joyous. Long may the chaos continue…”
About Overcooked!
Overcooked! is a cooperative — and at times, cutthroat — kitchen simulation game that tests whether players and their adorable chef avatars can handle the heat. Keep your eye on the clock, because much like a real kitchen, players must complete dishes promptly. Quickly read your latest order and drum up a strategic approach. Burger time? Flip patties yourself (provided you’ve got a pan) or hurl ’em across the stage to the player nearest the range. Nail each shift to accrue coins and up to three stars per stage.
The game’s dynamic difficulty scaling gradually cranks up the heat, adding more complex recipes, convoluted stage design, long cook times, and other obstacles to muck up your lunch rush.
The franchise’s first release launched on August 2, 2016, and more than 100 million would-be chefs have hopped into the digital kitchen in the decade since. Overcooked! 2 released two years later in August 2018, and the franchise’s definitive Overcooked! All You Can Eat followed in late 2020.
All You Can Eat, a fully remastered double-feature comprising both Overcooked! and its successor, includes more than 200 stages, dozens of cute playable chefs, and all-new in-game tunes. The 4K remaster’s March 2026 arrival to Netflix’s cloud game service marks the franchise’s most recent release. The cherry atop it all? A24’s upcoming adaptation of the competitive cooking game, currently in the works at Netflix.
XBOX One, XBOX X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Netflix, and even Google’s now-defunct Stadia platform?!
